"The Cradle Will Rock" is a 1937 play in music, telling the story of a small town corrupted by a mogul's money and intimidation.

Written by Marc Blitzstein and originally directed by Orson Welles, it was one of the first social commentary musicals and broke boundaries by discussing class war and the formation of labor unions. Produced under the Works Progress Administration, the original production was shut down by the federal government for official reasons of "budget cuts" but widely acknowledged as in response to the play's radical themes which are as relevant today as they were then.

"The Cradle Will Rock" is performing October 21-23 at the Portland Ballet Studio Theater.

Fridays and Saturdays: 8pm
Sundays: 2:30pm
All tickets: $15.95, general admission
