ALLEGIANCE's Lea Salonga went to see Broadway's The Color Purple last week, and the production seems to have left a lasting impression. So much so that the actress, known for her roles in LES MISERABLES, MISS SAIGON and more, expressed her hope of the show making it to Manila.

The actress wrote a guest column for Philippine Daily Inquirer about her experience, saying: "When the cast works united, it's a beautiful, almost church-like experience. But when the company doesn't, the production feels tired, and I end up muttering to myself about those few hours I'll never get back. To the cast and creative team of 'The Color Purple,' thank you for bringing this religious experience back to Broadway, moving Audience members with every single performance. You haven't only mounted a beautiful show, but you're moving and inspiring the spirits of the people who come to see this amazing show. Be proud, all of you."

She added: "My own personal hope is that a production of 'The Color Purple' makes it to Manila. Our own people will be able to relate to this story of triumph over adversity -- and be moved by the spirit dwelling within it!"

Grammy, Academy Award, and Golden Globe award winner Jennifer Hudson makes her Broadway debut opposite Cynthia Erivo, the breakout star of John Doyle's acclaimed Menier Chocolate Factory production, and Orange is the New Black's Danielle Brooks, in the highly anticipated production of The Color Purple.

They are joined by Isaiah Johnson (The Merchant of Venice, Peter and the Starcatcher) in the role of 'Mister;' Joaquina Kalukango (Encores! Wild Party, Holler If Ya Hear Me) as 'Nettie;' and Kyle Scatliffe (Les Miserables) in the role of 'Harpo.'

THE COLOR PURPLE is an unforgettable story of enduring love and triumph over adversity. With a fresh, joyous score of jazz, ragtime, gospel and blues, this stirring family chronicle follows the inspirational Celie, as she journeys from childhood through joy and despair, anguish and hope to discover the power of love and life.
