9 Livingston Avenue in New Brunswick will be rockin' every night beginning September 24 with music and laughter. George Street Playhouse and Artistic Director David Saint have announced casting for the opening production for the venerable theatre's fortieth season. Gettin' The Band Back Together (formerly titled Garage Band) is a rockin' valentine to the Garden State, and will be directed by Tony Award-winner John Rando - who also helmed The Toxic Avenger in New Brunswick (and New York) a few seasons back. Gettin' The Band Back Together will rock the house beginning Tuesday, September 24 and continue through Sunday, October 27. Opening night is set for Friday, October 4. Gettin' The Band Back Together is performed by special arrangement with Davenport Theatrical Enterprises, Inc. and Roy Putrino.

Black Lab Theatre to Stage ASSISTANCE, Begin. 9/19

In anticipation of the new NBC hit comedy sitcom based on the hit off-Broadway play Assistance, Black Lab Theatre opens its doors on September 19, 2013, with the regional premiere of the original work -- a hilarious single act play that revolves around entry level, 20-somethings frantically trying to please their hellacious boss as calls and drama ring in. The play's TV adaptation (to star Krysten Ritter and Alfred Molina) hits the TV's on NBC later this season with Will Ferrell's Gary Sanchez Productions producing and play's author Leslye Headland signed on as chief writer. Headland herself began her career as the assistant to legendary Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein and captures the angst of a new generation trying to hit the financial big time, one post-it at a time. This 'The Office' meets 'The Devil Wears Prada' Off-Broadway comedy about ambition-driven Generation-Y staffers will run at Wildfish Theater in the Galleria Area September 19 through Oct 5 at 8pm on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays plus a Monday Industry Night on Sept 30.

PBS to Air Kennedy Center's Carol Burnett Celebration, 11/24; Julie Andrews, Tina Fey & More to Appear

A lineup of top entertainers including, Julie Andrews, Lucie Arnaz, Tony Bennett, Tim Conway, Tina Fey, Rashida Jones, Vicki Lawrence, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Martin Short, Rosemary Watson and others will salute Carol Burnett at the 16th Annual Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for American Humor on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at 8:00 p.m. The evening will pay tribute the humor and accomplishments of Carol Burnett, and will be taped by WETA Washington, D.C. as Carol Burnett: The Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize. The program will air on PBS stations nationwide November 24, 2013 (check local listings). Artists are subject to change.

Shout out to Generation Y: Black Lab Theatre has your back with a new season celebrating the coming of age in the new millennium. Black Lab Theatre's 2013-2014 season kicks off this fall with the razor-sharp, Off-Broadway comedy Assistance by Leslye Headland, a scathing look at megabuck corporate office politics through the hilariously ambition-driven eyes of Generation-Y staffers. Black Lab's regional premiere of Assistance comes just ahead of the play's much anticipated TV adaptation starring Krysten Ritter and Alfred Molina to be produced for NBC by Will Ferrell's Gary Sanchez Productions with the play's author, Leslye Headland signed on to scribe. Headland wrote Assistance (Greed) as part of her "Seven Deadly Sins" series, and comes on the heels of Bachelorette, another hit play in the series that recently received a feature film release in 2012 staring Kirsten Dunst.
