Milwaukee Repertory Theater Announces New Associate Artists

Milwaukee Repertory Theater announced today that it will grow its Artistic Family to 19 Associate Artists. This new creative initiative will 'build upon the indelible legacy of The Rep's Acting Company, expanding to include directors, writers, designers and musicians and actors, all of whom will be called Milwaukee Repertory Theater Associate Artists.'

A LETTER TO Harvey Milk, a new musical which was a finalist in this year's prestigious Richard Rodgers Awards for Musical Theater, is one of 10 musical plays being presented by the 2012 New York Musical Theatre Festival Next Link Project (NYMF). The musical features an impressive cast led by Leslie Kritzer (Sondheim on Sondheim, A Catered Affair Legally Blonde), Jeff Keller (Phantom of the Opera, Sunday in the Park, Candide), Cheryl Stern (Into the Woods, La Cage Aux Folles, The Women, Les Miserable), Michael Bartoli (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat), Brandon Uranowitz (Baby It's You, Rent, Ragtime), Michael Padgett (Jekyll and Hyde) and Sara Corey (Beau Jest).

The musical is based on the short story, 'A Letter To Harvey Milk' by Lesléa Newman. Today, the New York Musical Theatre Festival hosted a press preview day, sampling its offerings this year, and on hand to preview MILK was the show's star, Leslie Kritzer (Sondheim on Sondheim, A Catered Affair Legally Blonde). One of Shakespeare's most tragic heroes squares off against literature's greatest villain in a visceral, sexy, hard-driving story of intrigue, betrayal and vengeance, as Iago leads Othello to the edge of jealous madness by sowing seeds of doubt about his wife's fidelity. This classic revenge tragedy comes to life in a modern and edgy adaptation set in the world of motorcycle gangs. This production of Othello will be directed by Artistic Director Mark Clements, the role of Othello will be performed by guest actor Lindsay Smiling, and the role of Iago will be performed by Rep Resident Acting Company Member Gerard Neugent. The Rep's production of Othello is sponsored by Harley-Davidson Motor Company and runs April 3 - May 6, 2012 in The Rep's Quadracci Powerhouse and previews Tuesday, April 3 - Thursday, April 5, and opens on Friday, April 6.
