Blue Hill Troupe, Ltd., the only musical theater group in New York City to donate its net proceeds to charity, kicks off its travel-themed 86th season with BRIGADOON, October 30 through November 7, 2009 at the Theatre at St. Clement's. The Blue Hill Troupe produces a musical every fall and a Gilbert & Sullivan operetta every spring, and has donated over $3 million to local charities since its inception in 1924.

Reading the director's notes for NonProphet Theater Company's production of THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW had me wondering, if indeed, 'many people have never seen the movie, much less the stage show'. I mean, I grew up during the 1960's and 70's, so I was exposed to the cult that is 'Rocky Horror' as soon as I could drive (or catch a ride) down to the Varsity Theater on Delmar for a midnight screening. But, I guess the mass proliferation of DVD's and widescreen TV's have replaced that unique communal rite of passage.

MATILDA, a new musical based on author Roald Dahl's 1988 children's book of the same name will be staged by the Royal Shakespeare Company at the Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon. The musical will premiere in late 2010, under the direction of Tony Award winner Matthew Warchus, with book by Dennis Kelly and music and lyrics by Tim Minchin.

Award-winning filmmaker Pola Rappaport?s documentary excavates the origins of this culturally transformative theatre work, including interviews with co-creator James Rado and original cast members, as well as abundant and rare archival footage. The result is a delectable deconstruction of a musical that defined an era, a generation and its politics. New Line Theatre's artistic director Scott Miller, author of the book 'Let the Sun Shine In: The Genius of Hair,' is also featured in the film.
