MOTOWN the Musical could've been a hokey disaster that tried to cobble great hits together in some strained reach of a storyline, but it isn't. MOTOWN's plot is not contrived but completely realistic and heart-warmingly human. Baltimore and Motor City may be more like strained siblings than kissing cousins, but in some deep sense, Detroit IS Baltimore and this musical will resonate most particularly here, most particularly now. MOTOWN deserves to be not just a Broadway phenomenon but a part of our collective culture. It's fun, it's funny, it's sexy and it's full of the sort of hopeful commitment to brighter futures that used to be part of the American Dream.

? Direct from London's West End, DANCING IN THE STREETS, the original hit stage production celebrating Motown's Greatest Hits, makes its North American debut with a nation-wide tour scheduled to stop at the Palace Theater in Waterbury, Conn. for one night only on Saturday, April 2 at 8 p.m.

Motown the Musical rocked into Overture Center in Madison on Tuesday night with an abundance of talent and energy delivering the memorable Hitsville, USA classics. Doubtless, there's a lot of hustling, bustling and what-not going on at Murfreesboro's Center For The Arts today as the company prepares for tonight's premiere of the musical extravaganza Dreamgirls. Directed by 2013 First Night Most Promising Actor Matthew Hayes Hunter (who may or may not answer to the name of "Matt" these days), the grand-scale production features four of the loveliest, most talented and mesmerizing leading ladies to be found on any stage, anywhere: Ra'Shaun Simon (playing Deena Jones), Brianna Booker (Lorell Robinson), Brittany Easley (Michelle Morris) and Robbyn "Vyrgo" Daniel, who plays the clarion-voiced Effie Melody White, the part made famous on Broadway by Jennifer Holliday.

Just in time for previews, which start tonight 11 February in the West End, MOTOWN THE MUSICAL has announced an extension through 18 February 2017. The Daily Mail revealed this evening that 200,000 new tickets are now on sale.

After a sold-out engagement in 2013, musician, actress and producer Rita Wilson will return to Feinstein's at the Nikko for two performances only - Friday, April 1 (8 p.m.) and Saturday, April 2 (7 p.m.) - as part of a 20+ city sprint 2016 tour to promote her second studio album - self-titled 'Rita Wilson,' a collection of original songs that she co-wrote.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Bloor-Danforth subway line, The Artists' Newsstand at Chester Station will host a Birthday Party on Thursday, February 25 from 4pm to 7pm featuring live performances, music and complimentary cake, balloons and prizes. The previously dormant Gateway newsstand was re-imagined in May 2015 as an artists' hub to benefit both commuters and artists.
