August Strindberg's Chekhovian comedy, 'Playing With Fire' (Leka med elden, 1893), in a translation by Ulrika Brand that has been newly adapted by Obie-winner Leslie Lee, Executive Director of Negro Ensemble Company, will be presented May 18 to June 10 with an all-black cast as the inaugural production of August Strindberg Repertory Theatre, directed by Robert Greer. The play, to be staged at New School for Drama, 151 Bank Street (West Village), will be a co-production of August Strindberg Repertory Theatre and Negro Ensemble Company in association with Theater Resources Unlimited.

What happens when two downtown divas pair up for one night of magic? A double bill of epic old-timey proportions. This 1940's themed cabaret/radio show is presented byJoe's Pub (425 Lafayette NYC, NY 10003) on Sunday, May 27th at 7pm. Tickets ($15) are available online (www.joespub.com) and at the door.

The singer, actress and comedienne Kaye Ballard, the Grammy and Tony Award-winning singer/songwriter and actress Dee Dee Bridgewater, and the jazz trumpeter and cornetist Warren Vaché will be the special honorees of the 2012 Bistro Awards tonight, April 23 at 6:30pm. Taking place at Gotham Comedy Club, 208 West 23rd Street (between 7th & 8th avenues), the 27th Annual Bistro Awards gala, which celebrates outstanding achievement in New York cabaret and jazz, will also recognize 22 other artists and shows.

The night will feature new works by Joe Kinosian and Kellen Blair (Murder For Two), Sam Carner and Derek Gregor (Unlock'd), Adam Michael Kaufman and Martin Landry, Adam Overett, Ian Weinberger, and Oran Eldor and Sarah Ziegler. In addition to contributing new medically-themed material, Kinosian, Landry, Overett (Light in the Piazza) and Ziegler will also be performing. Other performers include Holly Buczek, Mark Campbell (Mamma Mia!), Janice Landry, Vanessa Ragland, Ari Rossen, Erin Sjostrom, and Cecelia Ticktin.

4@15: Four New Fifteen-Minute Musicals, performed in conjunction with University of California, Irvine, will commence performances Friday, April 20, for three performances only at Roy Arias Theatre Center. Tammy Holder serves as Music Director; Brian Blythe directs.

The YALE INSTITUTE FOR MUSIC THEATRE (Mark Brokaw, Artistic Director) has selected two original book musicals, Mighty Five's Infinite Funk Odyssey with music and lyrics by Zach Abramson and Derek Muro and book by Phil Aulie and Xaq Webb and Mortality Play with music by Scotty Arnold and book and lyrics by Alana Jacoby, to be developed in an intensive lab setting in New Haven, June 4-17.

Producer John Forslund has announced the cast for his OFF THE BOOKS: A COLE PORTER UNPUBLISHED CABARET evening at the Duplex Piano Bar & Cabaret, New York on May 16 and 26.

Fact Theatre Company is concluding its third season with their annual PAGE 2 STAGE repertoire. FACT focuses on developing new work and the two shows being presented were developed during their playwright's forums.

Stabilized Not Controlled will play its last preview March 25, Sunday, 5:00 pm, at Stage Left Studio, 214 W. 30th Street. Studio owner and producer of the show, Cheryl King has now booked the show to begin weekly performances starting April 29, following the Fifth Annual Left Out Festival.
