Small Tall Theater Offers Summer Camps

Small Tall Theater will offer two camps this summer. Each camp will include theater, film, and improv components. This allows students to try their hand at work behind and in front of the lights. To honor the 100th anniversary of Tennessee Williams this year's process will center on an adaptation of one of his classic works.

In celebration of Tennessee Williams' centennial year, Westport Country Playhouse will stage a special performance by acclaimed actor Richard Thomas in 'A Distant Country Called Youth,' based on a collection of lively and evocative letters written by a young Tennessee Williams, on Monday, August 29, 7 p.m.
THE GLASS MENAGERIE Will Open in October at Virginia's Barter Theatre

Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie, starring Ashley Camps, Tricia Matthews, Nick Koesters and Nathan Whitmer, will be produced later this fall at Virginia's Barter Theatre. The State Theatre of Virginia will produce the classic American play October 7 through November 12 at Barter Stage II. The Glass Menagerie was chosen after Barter Theatre learned the script for Swamp Gas and Shallow Feelings (originally slated to open October 7) would not be completed in time for rehearsals.

WHITE HORSE THEATER COMPANY known for acclaimed productions of plays by Sam Shepard and Tennessee Williams commemorates Tennessee Williams' 100th Birthday by presenting his play, SUDDENLY LAST SUMMER. The play is directed by White Horse Producing Artistic Director Cyndy A. Marion recognized for her recent revivals of Williams' Clothes for a Summer Hotel, Small Craft Warnings and In the Bar of a Tokyo Hotel. SUDDENLY LAST SUMMER will play a three-week limited engagement at Hudson Guild Theatre (441 West 26th Street, btw. 9th &
10th Ave.). Performances begin Friday, September 16 and continue through Sunday, October 2. Opening Night is Monday, September 19 (8 p.m.).

On September 15, Louis Armstrong comes back to life at the Orlando Shakespeare Theatre where Dennis Neal stars in the world premiere of Terry Teachout's Satchmo at the Waldorf, a one-man play about the most beloved jazzman of all time. Set at New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel, where Louis 'Satchmo' Armstrong performed in public for the last time before his death in 1971, Satchmo at the Waldorf is a theatrical tour de force, a play in which the same actor portrays Armstrong and Joe Glaser, the trumpeter's controversial manager. Inspired by their actual words, the play takes a searching look at the complex relationship between the genius from New Orleans who turned jazz into a swinging art form and the hard-nosed, tough-talking ex-gangster from Chicago who made him an international icon.
