Syracuse Stage Artistic Director Announces the 2017/2018 Season

Syracuse Stage Artistic Director Robert Hupp yesterday announced the plays selected for the 2017/2018 season. The six plays are "The Three Musketeers", "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time", "The Wizard of Oz", "Next to Normal", "A Raisin in the Sun", and "The Magic Play".

Local actors Charlie Reese (Hand to God, Murder Ballad, Avenue Q) and Jill Ziegler (Shrek, Rent) are joined by songwriter and recording artist Madison Ray in Jonathan Larson's Tick, Tick... BOOM!, running for five performances in Noce Jazz Cabaret, February 17-25.

Magic and laughter come center stage as the Syracuse University Department of Drama's presents thecommedia dell'arte classic The King Stag. This prime example of the Italian comedic tradition of slapstick antics and sheer fun opens at The Department of Drama's Storch Theatre in the Syracuse Stage/SU Drama Complex, 820 E. Genesse St. on Feb. 18, and runs through Feb. 26. There will be a preview performance on Feb. 17.

The Jazz Ensembles of Mount Holyoke College present the 12th edition of The Big Broadcast! on Sunday, March 5 at 2PM & 7PM at Chapin Auditorium, Mount Holyoke College, in South Hadley, MA. Created and directed by Mark Gionfriddo, who is also onstage as "Matt Morgan", The Big Broadcast! is a re-creation of a live 1940's radio show featuring the Mount Holyoke College Big Band, Vocal Jazz, and Chamber Jazz Ensembles performing well-known tunes from the swing era and the American songbook. WWLP-TV meteorologist Brian Lapis is emcee "Fred Kelley" for his 10th consecutive season.

Known by legions of fans as 'the Man in Black,' artist and performer Johnny Cash was a musical jack-of-all-trades. A singer, songwriter, and guitarist all in one, his music incorporates country-western sounds with gospel and blues influences. Syracuse Stage celebrates this American icon with 'Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash,' an addition to the theater's 2016/2017 season.
