Blue Star Theatres to Join FST's SARASOTA FESTIVAL OF NEW PLAYS, 5/10

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, and Blue Star Families, the country's largest chapter-based military families non-profit organization, are pleased to join Florida Studio Theatre's Sarasota Festival of New Plays Weekend to celebrate student dramatic writing.

FST to Present Two More Burdick Readings, FORECLOSURE and UGLY LIES THE BONE, 5/12 & 19

Florida Studio Theatre announces two additional staged readings of the Burdick Reading Series. Foreclosure by Vincent Delaney will be presented on May 12 at 7 pm and Ugly Lies The Bone by Lindsey Ferrentino on May 19 at 7 pm. Both readings will take place in the Keating Theatre. The Civilians' original cabaret series is back at Joe's Pub on Saturday, May 17th at 7:00pm with Let Me Ascertain You: F*cking & Dying. This one night event will explore what happens when death and sex fixations collide. This unique cabaret of original songs and monologues looks at the duality of human nature and our competing sex and death drives, or to get Freudian, Eros vs. Thanatos. Hear some of New York's hottest downtown performers and musicians reveal tales of morbid curiosities and dirty secrets on the path to nirvana.

TheatreWorks Names Giovanna Sardelli as Director of New Works

TheatreWorks, the nationally acclaimed theatre of Silicon Valley, has announced the appointment of Giovanna Sardelli to the position of Director of New Works. Sardelli brings stellar national directing credits and close ties with many of today's hottest rising playwrights to the company, which has established itself as a leader in cultivating and producing new works. No stranger to TheatreWorks, Sardelli helmed the company's 2013 production of Somewhere by rising star Matthew Lopez, as well as the TheatreWorks' 2011World Premiere of Pulitzer Prize-nominee Rajiv Joseph's The North Pool, named by the San Francisco Chronicle as one of that year's ten best productions in the Bay Area.

Florida Studio Theatre to Present PUMP BOYS AND DINETTES, 6/4-29

Florida Studio Theatre announces the opening of the first show in the Summer Mainstage Season Pump Boys and Dinettes, book, lyrics, and music by John Foley, Mark Hardwick, Debra Monk, Cass Morgan, John Schimmel, and Jim Wann. The show will open in the Gompertz Theatre June 4 and run through June 29, 2014. Subscriptions to see all three shows of the season can be purchased for as little as $39. If you have not had the opportunity to experience this workshop production, you should not miss the opportunity to witness this rarest of theatre pieces. The Admission, by Israeli playwright Motti Lerner, does what few plays succeed in doing. The play confronts with searing honesty a reality few want to know or much less think about, giving voice to all sides of a situation that continues to rattle the world: the birth of Israel and the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. And it does so without resorting to hyperbolic rhetoric, contemptuous righteousness, or what so often happens, melodrama.
