Teatro Vista Names New Development/Managing Director

Teatro Vista announces that Jose Antonio Cruz has joined their ranks as its new Development/Managing Director. Cruz brings a wealth of experience after having spent 11 years as Associate Producer, Board Member and Treasurer for The Spanish Reportory Theater Company (Repertorio Español) in New York City. Teatro Vista, the vanguard of Latino theatre in the United States, was also honored by The Joyce Foundation with its prestigious three-year Spotlight Grant that awards the company $2.5 million over three years.
MNM Prodxns to Present SIDE BY SIDE BY SONDHEIM, 7/3-8/16

MNM Productions today announced the talented and experienced cast for the upcoming production of the award-winning musical SIDE BY SIDE BY SONDHEIM, which will run for 10 performances July 30 through August 9 at the Crest Theatre in Delray Beach, and for five performances August 13-16 at the Kravis Center's Rinker Playhouse in West Palm Beach.

Arden Theatre Company hosts its Master Storyteller Award ceremony and concert tonight, June 1, 2015. The award will be bestowed upon Composer and Lyricist Stephen Sondheim, who will accept the award at a ticketed ceremony and concert, which is a fundraising benefit for the Arden's extensive educational and outreach programs. Composer and Lyricist Jason Robert Brown will present Mr. Sondheim with the award.

In this taut 2013 theatrical adaptation of Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela's award winning-book, the apartheid regime's most notorious assassin and head of its death squad, Eugene de Kock (played by Matthew Marsh), sits opposite psychologist Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela (played Noma Dumezweni) in Pretoria Central Prison in 1997. Gobodo-Madikizela is a member of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission determined to understand his actions. She questions de Kock, who is sentenced to two life terms plus 212 years for crimes against humanity, murder, conspiracy to murder, attempted murder, assault, kidnapping, illegal possession of firearms, and fraud.

Closing out the 26th season, Artistic Director David Simmons has put together some of the greatest works by your favorite composer and mine, Stephen Sondheim. When I was 14 years old, I heard 'Sunday' from Sunday in the Park with George for the first time. I remember it clearly. I'd borrowed the album from the library - yes - while everyone else was playing kickball down the street, I was holed up in my room, listening to the vinyl of lesser-known musicals. THAT'S how gay I am.

Long Beach Opera's 2016 season has been announced and includes a new production of the 1974 version of Leonard Bernstein's comic operetta Candide, winner of four Tony Awards; the world premiere of Tobin Stokes' Fallujah, with a libretto by Iraqi-American Heather Raffo, based on the story of a US Marine and his experience during the Iraq war; Suzan Hanson starring in Francis Poulenc's La Voix Humaine (The Human Voice), a moving monodrama about unrequited love; and the West Coast premiere of the video-pop opera The News by Jacob TV – the Andy Warhol of new music.

Eddie Bruce takes over the Boardwalk on Thursday nights this summer when he headlines at Resorts Casino and Hotel in the Screening Room for their Thursday Night Summer Concert Series. With four different themed shows, this popular entertainer will delight audiences at 8 p.m. on July 16 with 'Bruce on Broadway', July 23 with 'Bruce on Sinatra', July 30 with 'Bruce on Bennett' and on August 6th with 'Eddie's Favorites - from the Beatles to Buble'. The August 6th concert is Eddie's birthday and guests can share in the celebration with lots of surprises and birthday cupcakes for all. With music direction by Tom Adams, he'll be joined by pianist Tom Adams, bassist Andy Lalasis, drummer Grant MacAvoy and guitarist Tom Giacabatti.
