Houston Ballet Academy Director Takes New Role at Prix de Lausanne

HOUSTON, TEXAS – Houston Ballet Academy Director, Shelly Power, will assume a new role at the international dance competition, Prix de Lausanne in September 2016. Power will lead Prix de Lausanne as the first dually titled Artistic Director and Chief Executive Officer in the competitions 45-year history. “I'm very grateful to the many individuals who have contributed to the impressive legacy of the Prix de Lausanne. My hope is to build on the wonderful legacy of the organization, and expand the Prix de Lausanne's role supporting students' next steps in the international dance world and beyond,” said, Power.

 Kansas City Ballet Artistic Director Devon Carney today announced the appointment of two new members, Elysa Hotchkiss and Thom Panto, and two new apprentices, Lilliana Hagerman and Naomi Hergott to the Kansas City Ballet Company. Additionally there are 10 new members of Kansas City Ballet's Second Company comprised of KCB II dancers Ivan Braatz, Nikolas Gaifullin, Aaron Steinberg and Goldie Walberg and Trainees Miranda Dafoe, Lindsay Dekleva, Elizabeth Dennen, Melanie Jensen, Zoe Stein, and Kara Troester. High resolution photos can be downloaded here.

Philadelphia, PA (September 15, 2015) – Pennsylvania Ballet and Artistic Director Angel Corella are pleased to announce that Charles Askegard, former Principal Dancer at New York City Ballet and American Ballet Theater, will be joining the Company as Ballet Master. From tonight, June 11, through June 21, 2015, Houston Ballet will present John Cranko's staging of The Taming of the Shrew, a masterful choreographic depiction of Shakespeare's perpetually battling lovers, Petruchio and Katherina, and of Petruchio's determination to bend the feisty, independent-spirited and tempestuous Katherina to his will. Incorporating a stunning array of dramatic moods, virtuoso dancing and vivid characterization, The Taming of the Shrew conveys like no other ballet Shakespeare's wit, brilliant comic invention and sharp understanding of human character. Houston Ballet will give seven performances of The Taming of the Shrew at Wortham Theater Center in downtown Houston.
