According to The New York Times, Rev. Sidney Lanier, an experimental stage producer, passed away on Sept. 23 in Santa Barbara, Calif. He was 90.

The University of Maryland School of Music brings musician-poet, Sidney Clopton Lanier to life in a presentation that honors his creative legacy and artistic contribution to his adopted home, Baltimore, during the post-Civil War Reconstruction Era. Entitled Orpheus' Son - The Life of Sidney Lanier and His Music of Language, the program tells Lanier's poignant life story, interwoven with passages of period flute music, some composed by Lanier, and narrative readings of Lanier's poetic musical expression.

Bach Festival Society Commissions New Work by Jaron Lanier 10/23-24

The Bach Festival Society of Winter Park in partnership with the Winter Park Institute, Rollins College, has commissioned internationally renowned computer scientist, author, and musician Jaron Lanier to write a new work for choir, orchestra, and vocal soloists. This work, Symphony for Amelia, will have its world premiere on October 23 and 24, 2010.
