A dazzling musical comedy that is both a poignant love story and a joyous celebration of Hollywood's golden age, MACK AND MABEL is based on the real-life tumultuous romantic relationship between early 1900s legendary filmmaker Mack Sennett and accidental starlet Mabel Normand.

As previously announced, the Tony Award-winning Drama Book Shop will host actress and singer Barbara Cook for a discussion and signing of her new memoir, Then and Now this fall. Previously scheduled for  Thursday, October 13th at 5:00pm, Miss Cook will sit down with playwright Steven Carl McCasland for an in intimate conversation about her life, career and revealing autobiography. The event will be rescheduled for a later date to be announced shortly.

IVRT Presents VICTOR/VICTORIA in Claremont

Set in Paris in the 1930s, Victor/Victoria tells the story of talented singer Victoria Grant, down on her luck and out of a job, only to change her identity (and gender!) to become the toast of Paris as 'Count Victor of Poland,' a man who imitates a woman in the local cabaret. Amy Gillette will portray Victor/Victoria, the role made famous by Julie Andrews in the 1980 Blake Edwards movie of the same name. Ron Hastings plays the role of Toddy, played in the movie by Robert Preston. This musical won the IVRT audience poll and is being produced by IVRT for two nights and one matinee only, on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 27 and 28 at the Candlelight Pavilion in Claremont.

Happy Birthday, Robert Preston! best remembered for his performance as 'Professor' Harold Hill in Meredith Willson's musical The Music Man (1962). He had already won a Tony Award for his performance in the original Broadway production, in 1957. In 1965 he was the male part of a duo-lead musical, I Do! I Do! with Mary Martin, for which he won his second Tony Award. He played the title role in the musical Ben Franklin in Paris and originated the role of Henry II in the original production of The Lion in Winter. In 1974 he starred alongside Bernadette Peters in Jerry Herman's Broadway musical Mack & Mabel as Mack Sennett, the famous silent film director. That same year (1974) the film version of Mame, another famed Jerry Herman musical, was released with Preston starring, alongside Lucille Ball, in the role of Beauregard Burnside.

Cast Announced for Promethean's THE LION IN WINTER

Full casting has been announced for Promethean Theatre Ensemble's production of James Goldman's The Lion in Winter, according to Brian Pastor, director of this production and artistic director of the company. Leading the cast as King Henry II of England and his wife Eleanor of Acquitaine, the roles immortalized by Peter O'Toole and Katharine Hepburn in the 1968 film version, will be Brian Parry and Elaine Carlson. Parry, a Jeff award winner for supporting actor in Redtwist's Shining City, is a four-time Jeff Award nominee and recently earned raves for his portrayal of George in Redtwist's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf along with his roles in Redtwist's Red and the currently playing The Drawer Boy. Parry has previously appeared with Promethean in The Lark. Carlson was a Jeff winner for Famous Door's Salt of the Earth and was seen recently in Eclipse's A Perfect Ganesh. She has performed previously with Promethean in Tiger at the Gates and A Study in Scarlet.

The Repertory Collective confront the Banksters of Wall Street in the world premiere one-man play The Reckoning, Pecora For The Public written by Neil Thomas Proto, directed by Arne Zaslove and starring Bob DeDea. This new play for the '99%' immortalizes Italian-American Ferdinand Pecora's valiant effort to expose the malignant and deceptive practices of Wall Street's most elite financiers and bankers including JP Morgan Jr., based on actual transcripts from the 1933 United States Senate Banking Committee hearings to determine the root causes of the 1929 stock market crash.
