Harlem Summer Shakespeare's ROMEO & JULIET Begins 7/23 at Riverbank State Park

HARLEM SUMMER SHAKESPEARE begins its 10th season of FREE SHAKESPEARE in Riverbank State Park with ROMEO AND JULIET on Wednesday, July 23rd and continues through August 17th, with the official opening on July 24th at 8 pm. The company returns to the Riverside Amphitheatre in Riverbank State Park, Riverside Drive at 145th Street, overlooking the Hudson River. Performances are Wednesdays through Sundays at 8 PM.

NYC Parks Commissioner Veronica M. White today joined City Council Members Robert Jackson and local youths to cut the ribbon on a new playground and ballfields in Fort Washington Park in northern Manhattan, one of eight regional parks being transformed under PlaNYC, the City's long-term plan for a greener, greater New York. The Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH) (Producing Artistic Director, Ty Jones), presents the Shakespeare classic A Midsummer Night's Dream directed by Artistic Associate Justin Emeka this summer in Harlem's Richard Rodgers Amphitheater in Marcus Garvey Park. Performances of the free play, which runs July 13-30 (on Tuesdays through Sunday) at 7:30 pm, are made possible by the Ford Foundation.

The Council of Advisors of the Arts Horizons LeRoy Neiman Art Center and the Arts Horizons Board of Directors welcomed guests to the Second Annual a fundraiser, Art Splash 2013, Larger Than Life at the LeRoy Neiman Art Center (LNAC) in Central Harlem. The evening featured an awards ceremony, exhibition, buffet dinner, cocktails and a silent auction celebrated the legacy of the famed artist LeRoy Neiman and his vision to provide arts education to the young children of Harlem. In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, Chinatown restaurants mobilized and created the Second Annual Chinatown Restaurant Week from March 16 to 31, 2013, which offers $20.13 lunch and dinner specials that include the flavorful highlights of Shanghai, Sichuan, Hanoi, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Peking cuisines some with European, French, Italian, Mexican, and American influences.
Over 25,000 Viewers Urge Time Warner Cable to Keep Ovation

On Jan. 1, Ovation, the only cable television network exclusively devoted to the arts, was officially dropped from Time Warner Cable's (TWC) lineup. Just before being dropped, Ovation delivered TWC a petition signed by over 25,000 Americans. The petition, which was hosted online at the website KeepOvation.com expresses dismay at TWC's intention to drop the network and urges the cable company to keep Ovation in its lineup.
