OZ Arts Nashville, Music City's critically acclaimed and pioneering contemporary arts center, Monday announced its 2017-18 season, programmed by artistic director Lauren Snelling to include works that are described, by turns, as viscerally beautiful, death-defying, innovative and topical. Headlining the range of offerings is the December 1 appearance of the legendary American soprano Renee Fleming who will be starring in the 2018 Broadway revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Carousel.

The World Science Foundation is pleased to announce that David Draiman, lead singer of iconic hard rock band Disturbed, will perform in the opening event of the 2017 World Science Festival, Time, Creativity, and the Cosmos, a multimedia work celebrating the human spirit of exploration, discovery, and creativity.

 The Music Academy of the West launches its 70th anniversary season on June 12. To celebrate this major milestone anniversary, the Festival will launch three important new initiatives - the Commissions and Premieres program, the Enterprise Awards program for alumni, and the Steinway Competition and tour - besides presenting the inaugural Evolution/Revolution Conference and the largest classical music event in the history of Santa Barbara, California, for which Alan Gilbert will lead the New York Philharmonic in the final performance of his eight-year tenure with the orchestra. This year's four Mosher Guest Artists, Matthew Aucoin, David Daniels, Renee Fleming, and Stephen Hough, will take part in major Academy performances and share their expertise through masterclasses. Taking place from June 12 through August 5, 2017, the 70th Season Festival will comprise more than 200 masterclasses, recitals, performances, and events in Santa Barbara, many of which are free to the public. Festival events will feature the Summer School's 137 fellows, drawn from 22 states and eight countries, as well as nearly 70 faculty and guest artists.

Artistic Directors Douglas Aibel and Sarah Stern announce that Vineyard Theatre's 2017-2018 season will include the world premiere of THE BEAST IN THE JUNGLE, a new work - fusing drama, dance and music - by five-time Tony Award-winning director and choreographer Susan Stroman (CONTACT, THE PRODUCERS), playwright David Thompson (SCOTTSBORO BOYS), and legendary composer and four-time Tony Award winner John Kander (CABARET, CHICAGO).

The World Science Festival will culminate its groundbreaking first decade by bringing science to the crossroads of the world, Times Square, and to locations across New York City's five boroughs, with more than 50 events, May 30 - June 4, 2017.

For a new production that was supposed to mark a farewell for soprano Renee Fleming to a role (the Marschallin) if not to staged opera performance in general, Robert Carsen's version of Richard Strauss's DER ROSENKAVALIER at the Met seemed more of a farce and less a tale of regret about passing time than usual. And the “star” role seemed more of an aside than the center of it all.

MasterVoices (formerly The Collegiate Chorale), closes its 75th anniversary season with Victor Herbert's Babes in Toyland on April 27, 2017 at 7pm at Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall (57th Street and 7th Avenue, New York, NY 10019). The New York Times reports that producers Scott Rudin and Roy Furman will revive CAROUSEL on Broadway next spring with Jesse Mueller as Julie Jordan, Joshua Henry as Billy Bigelow, and Renee Fleming as Nettie Fowler.

In his new production, Robert Carsen, the director behind the Met's recent Falstaff, places the action at the end of the Habsburg Empire, underscoring the opera's subtext of class and conflict against a rich backdrop of gilt and red damask, in a staging that also stars Günther Groissböck as Baron Ochs. Sebastian Weigle conducts the sparklingly perfect score.

According to an article published in the New York Times, they reported that 'Renee Fleming has announced that she will be retiring from the opera stage,' stating that her final performance will be of 'Der Rosenkavalier' at the Metropolitan Opera on May 13th.  However, the NPR now reveals new information that the diva is not quitting just yet.
