Written and directed by Rebecca Hall, the film follows the story of two Black women, Irene Redfield (Tessa Thompson) and Clare Kendry (Academy Award nominee Ruth Negga), who can “pass” as white but choose to live on opposite sides of the color line during the height of the Harlem Renaissance in late 1920s New York.

Among the guests are stars of the stage and screen including Raúl Esparza, Nathan Lane, John Leguizamo, and Leslie Odom Jr.

Joining this year’s virtual version of the Sundance Film Festival, The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) adds Mikel Jollett (Airborne Toxic Event), Pedrito Martinez, Hailey Whitters, Ron and Russell Mael (SPARKS) and The Sparks Brothers director Edgar Wright to the lineup.

In a world of remakes, reboots and recycled stories, inimitability is hard to find.
