Sir Paul McCartney to Receive Gershwin Prize from Barack Obama, 6/2

On June 2, 2010, Sir Paul McCartney, former member of the Beatles, will appear and perform at the White House, the Telegraph reported on Monday. President Barack Obama will present McCartney with the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, awarded by the Library of Congress. The prize, named for American songwriting brothers George and Ira Gershwin, has been awarded annually since 2008 to a musician who has made exceptional contributions to the world of popular song.

This juxtaposition of two monumental exhibits is the embodiment of Black History Month: artist and children's book illustrator Jerry Pinkney exhibits watercolor paintings depicting historic figures and events in black history, while Pete Souza, the Chief OfficiAl White House Photographer, displays behind-the-scenes photographs of President Barack Obama's first year in office, from dinner with his family to a snowball fight with Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel. The display will end its run on April 18th.

Patricia Loughrey's play 'Dear Harvey' will be presented in a concert reading with professional actors at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. during the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF) this April. KCACTF is a national theater program involving 18,000 students from colleges and universities nationwide which has served as a catalyst in improving the quality of college theater in the United States.

Susan Boyle, runner up on the popular British television show 'Britain's Got Talent,' is rumored to have been invited to perform for President Barack Obama and the First Lady, Michelle Obama. The event will be a 'small, intimate gathering' honoring Michelle Obama's 46th birthday. The event will take place at the White House on January 17th. Michelle and Barack Obama are both known to be big Susan Boyle fans.
