Mario Frangoulis, the world-renowned powerhouse tenor, makes his San Francisco debut with his electrifying voice and stunning charisma, in a one-night-only performance at the Nourse Auditorium (275 Hayes Street, San Francisco) on Friday, November 8, 2013. Unveiling songs from his new, critically acclaimed international release, Beautiful Things, Frangoulis will continue his limited Unite States tour with performances at the Harris Theater in Chicago on Sunday, November 10 and The Rose Theatre at Jazz at the Lincoln Center in New York on Saturday, November 16. Frangoulis will donate a portion of proceeds from these three performances to charity. During her 2013-14 season, rising-star soprano Ailyn Perez - winner of the 2012 Richard Tucker Award and the 15th annual Placido Domingo Award - embodies Verdi's iconic Violetta on both sides of the Atlantic. The Chicago-born singer portrays the composer's tragic heroine in Verdi bicentennial stagings of La traviata at Hamburg State Opera (tonight, Sep 20-27) and Ópera de Oviedo in Spain (Oct 13-19), with 2014 productions at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich (Dec 31-Jan 6), London's Royal Opera House, Covent Garden (May 6-20) and San Francisco Opera (July 5-13). Reviewing her 2012 triumph in La traviata at Covent Garden, The Observer of the UK called Perez 'an ideal Violetta... The bewitching young American soprano puts her heart into every twist of the drama. Her performance was glorious, the quiet passages magical.' But it's not only Violetta this season for the soprano, as she returns to New York for the Richard Tucker Music Foundation Gala at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall (Nov 17) and joins tenor Stephen Costello - her husband - for a duo recital at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia (Dec 17).

The Merola Opera Program and the San Francisco Public Library Main Branch are teaming up for Merola Goes to the Movies, a new series that presents great opera-themed movies that have been captured on film.

This year's The Outstanding Filipino Americans in New York Heritage Award recipient The Foundation for Filipino Artists Inc., together with executive committee members Loida Nicolas Lewis, Aida Bartolome, Jerry Sibal, Michael Dadap, Dr. Angie Cruz, Edwin Josue and Robert Perlstein, brings to New York Felipe Padilla de Leon, Philippine National Artist for Music, and Guillermo Tolentino's 1957 opera 'Noli Me Tangere,' based on the 1887 classic romantic novel by Dr. Jose Rizal, the Philippines' national hero.

On Wednesday, October 23 at 8:00 p.m.,Orchestra of St. Luke's returns to Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage for the first of three concerts this season. Following a successful debut last season as the orchestra's principal conductor, Pablo Heras-Casadoconducts Britten's Serenade for Tenor, Horn, and Strings as well as Mendelssohn's overture to A Midsummer Night's Dream and Shostakovich's Symphony No. 9 in E-flat Major.

Austin Lyric Opera (ALO) has announced that internationally acclaimed American tenor James Valenti will take on the title role of its season opener, 'Don Carlo'.

The young internationally acclaimed South African soprano, Pretty Yende captivated opera lovers the world over when she made her spectacular recital debuts at the Teatro Alla Scala in Rome, the Metropolitan Opera in New York and the Wigmore Hall in London. Soon this Piet Retief, Mpumalanga born musical wonder will grace the stage at the Teatro at Montecasino on Thursday, 14 November 2013 followed by a concert at the Artscape Opera House, Cape Town on Saturday, 16 November 2013. In 'the year of Italian culture in the United States' sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,ArtsLab Onstage (www.ArtsLabOnstageNYC.com) will present T'Ammore, 'The Spirit of Naples' and Belcanto, 'The Luciano Pavarotti Heritage' at New York City Center (131 W. 55th Street). T'Ammore, will play October 16th and 18th and Belcanto, produced in collaboration with the Luciano Pavarotti Foundation, will play October 17th and 19th, all shows at 8pm.

Following countless performances as a tenor, Domingo has now recorded an album of Verdi's baritone arias.
