MY GENERAL TUBMAN By Lorene Cary Comes To Philadelphia For World Premiere

Noted author and scholar Lorene Cary, whose first novel, The Price of a Child, was selected in 2003 as the inaugural One Book, One Philadelphia, will be presenting the world premiere of her play, MY GENERAL TUBMAN, at Philadelphia's Arden Theatre Company. The work, directed by award-winning theatre artist James Ijames, will run at the Arden's Arcadia Stage from January 16 to March 1, 2020. Reviewing press are invited to the 7PM performance on January 22, or any performance afterwards.

People's Light presents For Peter Pan on Her 70th Birthday by two-time Pulitzer Prize Finalist Sarah Ruhl, featuring an all-star cast of Philadelphia favorites and directed by People's Light Executive Artistic Director Abigail Adams. Family is at the heart of Sarah Ruhl's imaginative and lyrical comedy-drama. Five middle-aged siblings crack jokes, argue politics, and mourn the death of their father over a bottle of Jameson. Ann, the eldest, reminisces about her star turn as Peter Pan at the local children's theatre fifty years ago, and leads her siblings on one final journey to Neverland, as they confront growing old and growing up. Lantern Theater Company announces its upcoming 2019/20 season, which will include an ambitious and eclectic mix of classic, contemporary, and new work for the stage. The five plays that comprise the company's mainstage season include Bertolt Brecht's The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, a brilliant drama about politics and fear that remains an instructive parable today; the Philadelphia premiere of Anna Zieger's The Last Match, a funny and moving drama from the author of the Lantern's smash hit Photograph 51; the Philadelphia premiere of The Vertical Hour by renowned British playwright David Hare, a sophisticated drama about the shifting alliances of family; William Shakespeare's tragedy Othello; and a world premiere adaptation of Moliere's The Misanthrope. This new adaptation by revered Philadelphia theater artist Peter DeLaurier will enthrall audiences as the action moves to modern-day Washington, D.C.

Lantern Theater Company kicks off its 2018/19 season with the regional premiere of Hapgood by Tom Stoppard. Longtime Lantern artistic collaborator Peter DeLaurier will direct a cast that includes McKenna Kerrigan as MI5 spymaster Elizabeth Hapgood, with Damon Bonetti, Kirk Wendell Brown, Trevor William Fayle, Christopher Patrick Mullen, Adam Phelan, David Pica, William Zielinski, and young actors Charles LaMonaca and Will Zielinski, who will share the role of Hapgood's son Joe. Lantern Theater Company announces its upcoming 2018/19 mainstage season, which will include an ambitious and eclectic mix of classical, contemporary, and new work for the stage. The five plays that comprise the company's 2018/19 season include the Philadelphia premiere of Hapgood, Tom Stoppard's fascinating and fast-paced tale of Russian spies and nuclear physics at the height of the Cold War; the Philadelphia premiere of David Ives' poetic farce, The Heir Apparent; Betrayal by Harold Pinter, a sophisticated drama about love, sex, marriage, and friendship; William Shakespeare's dark comedy Measure for Measure; and Minors, a world premiere musical by Philadelphia artists Kittson O'Neill and Tony Award-winner Robert Kaplowitz. This new Lantern-commissioned work represents the company's first foray into musical theater and is inspired by the notorious "kids for cash" scandal in which corrupt judges sentenced youths to for-profit juvenile detention centers in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.
