BWW Review: The Young Actors Carry SCHOOL OF ROCK: THE MUSICAL to its Heights
by David Muschell
- Oct 17, 2018
Of course, in doing a review of School of Rock: The Musical, I have to make comparisons to the movie from which it was adapted. That endearing smash hit, where Jack Black overturns the old Hollywood adage, "Never work with animals or children," though fifteen-years-old now, still holds up. So, does the Andrew Lloyd WebberJulian Fellowes musical stage version? For the most part, the answer is yes, though the kids overwhelm the stage adaptation of Dewey Finn, the Jack Black character. Webber says the message of the story is about "the empowering force of music," but what the musical misses from the movie is how Dewey and his students discover the real power of education: the bond that forms between teacher and students as they discover the joy of learning.

George Gordon's Comedy Album YOUR GOOD FRIEND - Out October 9th
by Sarah Jae Leiber
- Oct 2, 2018
George Gordon's debut stand-up comedy album Your Good Friend may have his name on it, but this album belongs to George's community, too. In fact, each track is subtitled with the name of, appropriately, a good friend of his in comedy, along with some family members. Recorded at the beloved Union Hall in Brooklyn, New York, Your Good Friend is the perfect introduction to George's brilliant storytelling method of conversational and deceptively measured delivery, capturing the audience with sleeper hits before they even know what's happened to them. Once they've learned about his memorable Paul Giamatti interactions, drinking with the original Becky from Roseanne, his mother's decidedly capitalist concerns about his comedy career and his particular love for coleslaw, the listener will have a new friend in George Gordon. Your Good Friend will be available on all digital platforms on October 9th from Little Lamb recordings.
THE CATCHER WAS A SPY Starring Paul Rudd to be Released on DVD and Digital
by Kaitlin Milligan
- Sep 17, 2018
Paul Rudd stars as Moe Berg in the incredible true story of how a professional baseball player became a World War II spy. A Jewish, Princeton-educated, multilingual catcher for the Boston Red Sox with a closely-guarded private life, the enigmatic Berg was already a man of mystery when, in 1944, the U.S. government's wartime intelligence agency enlisted his services. His mission: go behind enemy lines in Europe to assassinate the Nazi's chief nuclear scientist before the Germans develop an atomic bomb. Trading in his catcher's mitt for a trench coat, Berg must rely on his formidable, steel-trap intellect in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse—with the fate of the world hanging in the balance. Mark Strong, Sienna Miller, Jeff Daniels, Guy Pearce and Paul Giamatti costar in this remarkable slice of forgotten history.
