BWW Recap: Liza's Twisted Love Triangle Gets Even Twistier When Worlds Collide on YOUNGER
by Matt Smith
- Nov 16, 2016
Wow! What a week it's been! And I'm not just talking about what you think I'm talking about. It's messy for Liza this week... made all the worse by the fact that she's essentially drugged up and knocked out while all the action's going on (so she's oblivious to basically everything). A freak accident on a MetroBike (thanks Diana!) lands her in the hospital, where hijinks ensue with Josh, Charles and yep, even, ex-husband David as worlds collide, storylines interwine, paths are crossed, meetings are made, and piggies are covered. (Don't worry... it'll all make sense once you're through with the recap/episode!) Plus, Diana has a chance encounter with a Broadway-friendly hunky hunk, and Kelsey acquires a new book for Empirical to publish... and gets a new boyfriend, too! It's all ahead (or behind, depending on if you've seen the episode or not!) on this week's recap, so if you're intrigued... you know what to do! Thanks!!

BWW Review: The Dream is Impossible with 5th Ave's MAN OF LA MANCHA
by Jay Irwin
- Oct 19, 2016
Dale Wasserman, Mitch Leigh, and Joe Darion's "Man of La Mancha" is a bona fide classic. It's a sweeping epic filled with power, pathos, romance, and tragedy … when it's done right. The show is by no means bulletproof. I've seen incredible productions and I've seen mediocre productions. And after the current production at the 5th Avenue Theatre now I can say I've seen an atrocious production. Not only does it do no honor to the beauty of the original but it also does no honor to basic tenets of good musical theater. And for a musical theater nerd such as myself, that makes for an offensive evening.
BWW Interview: Derrick Davis of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA at Bass Performance Hall
by Sarah Comley Caldwell
- Oct 18, 2016
If you ask a musical theatre lover to name one of their favorite shows, there's a high likelihood they will mention Andrew Lloyd Webber's classic, The Phantom of the Opera, a staple on Broadway, around the world and on tour. I was honored and thrilled to chat with actor Derrick Davis, who is in rehearsal for the national tour and will step into the role of the Phantom in Fort Worth, TX at the Bass Performance Hall, beginning October 20th. We discussed his historic ascent into the role {as only the third African-American to star as the Phantom and the first to star in the national tour}, his dream roles, tricks of the trade and, of course, his favorite flavor of cake - check out our conversation below!
