Black is the Color Of My Voice is a one-woman show inspired by the story of singing legend Nina Simone, written and performed by Shanghai based singer and actress, Apphia Campbell. This theatre piece with music will be performed at Gilded Balloon (Billiard Room) from Friday 1 - Monday 25 August, 14.20 (15.20 ends).

Jazz Vocalist/storyteller Shoshana Bush will appear at The Cornelia Street Cafe, on Friday June 27th at 6pm, singing the adventurous mix of jazz and American Songbook standards and not so standards for which she's popular on both coasts. Shoshana will be accompanied by Isamu McGregor on piano and Brian Holtz on Bass. Call 212.989.9319. It is her first appearance at this legendary Greenwich Village venue. She has appeared previously at Birdland and Blue Note, where she opened for Jane Monheit as a participant in the Emerging Artist Series in 2013.

The producers of the new Broadway musical Soul Doctor, about the life and music of Shlomo Carlebach and his unlikely friendship with Nina Simone, announced today that the show will return off-Broadway to the Actors Temple Theatre (339 W47th Street) with previews beginning November 25, 2014 and opening scheduled for Sunday, December 14.

Trustus Dedicates All of August to New Works

The entire month of August 2014 will be dedicated to the creation of original works at Trustus Theatre. The month will kick off with the world premiere of the 2013 winner of the Trustus Playwrights' Festival: Deborah Brevoort's The Velvet Weapon. The show will open August 8th at 8:00pm, and run through August 16, 2014. Trustus will host a reading of the winning script from the 2014 Trustus Playwrights' Festival on August 16th at 2:00pm.
