The 28th Annual Bistro Awards gala, set to take place on Monday, March 4, has announced some of its main presenters. Unlike most other awards show, the Bistro Awards is an evening filled with great performances from the winners - stars as well as talented newcomers - who represent a wide variety of styles from the worlds of cabaret, comedy, and jazz.

Who would have ever thought that the New York Cabaret scene would end up having almost as many awards shows as the film industry? The Nightlife Awards Show at Town Hall was presented on January 14, and the newly established BroadwayWorld.com New York Cabaret Awards Show filled the Metropolitan Room on February 21. The Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs (MAC) will hold it's 27th Annual MAC Awards Show on March 21 at B.B. King's Blues Club. But next up is the 28th Annual Bistro Awards Gala, which recognizes outstanding achievement in New York cabaret, jazz, and comedy, on March 4 at 6:30pm at the Gotham Comedy Club (208 West 23rd Street, Between 7th & 8th Ave). The evening, under the direction of Shellen Lubin, will once again be co-hosted by comedian and actor Jim David, and will feature performances from most of this year's Bistro-winning artists.

On SMASH's upcoming episode, titled 'The Read-Through,' Julia's (Debra Messing) fears increase when Tom (Christian Borle) airs his suspicions of Peter (guest star Daniel Sunjata). Jimmy (Jeremy Jordan) and Kyle (Andy Mientus) confront their own crisis of confidence as 'Hit List' is read for the first time. Meanwhile, Ivy (Megan Hilty) realizes her triumph might not be all she hoped when she meets her new co-star, Terry Falls (guest star Sean Hayes), and Karen (Katharine McPhee) wonders if she can trust Jimmy. Anjelica Huston, Jack Davenport and Krysta Rodriguez also star. Sean Hayes, Daniel Sunjata and Nikki Blonsky guest star. 'The Read-Through' airs March 5 at 10 p.m. on NBC.

On Tuesday, February 5, 2013, students in the Great Neck Arts Center's special needs 'Dinner, Music & Art' class enjoyed a treat--a screening of the 2007 movie 'Hairspray', followed by a surprise visit from the star of the film, Great Neck's own Nikki Blonsky. Vulture.com reports that the much maligned character 'Ellis', played by actor Jamie Cepero, may still be featured on the upcoming second season of NBC's SMASH. At this weekend's Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour, executive producer Neil Meron told reporters, 'Ellis is still alive.'

At this weekend's Television Critics Association Tour, new SMASH show runner Joshua Safran spoke about the highly-anticipated second season of the hit NBC musical drama. 'It's bigger, with more music, younger in some regards,' commented Safran, 'but I hope the people who watched it still see the same show they loved.' So it does defy what is commercial and popular today.'
