Five theaters and two individuals have been selected to participate in the ninth round of the New Generations Program/Future Collaborations initiative. This round of recipients is funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and administered by Theatre Communications Group (TCG).
16th Merit Award Honors Todd Rosenthal 4/27 At Steppenwolf

The 16th Annual Merritt Award for Excellence in Design and Collaboration program, honoring world class scenic designer Todd Rosenthal (August: Osage County), will take place on Monday, April 27, at the Steppenwolf Merle Reskin Garage Theatre. The doors open at 5:30 p.m. with a viewing of the third annual ?Theater Design Expo' showcasing the works of over 20 Chicago-area emerging theatrical designers and a student portfolio review. Martha Lavey, Artistic Director of Steppenwolf Theatre Company, will moderate an inclusive discussion, 'Moving Chicago Productions to New York and Beyond' with the awardees, Director Anna Shapiro and Joshua Schmidt, composer and librettist, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The Cleveland Play House Artistic Director Michael Bloom announces the world premiere production of Thornton Wilder's novel Heaven's My Destination, adapted by award-winning playwright Lee Blessing. Goodman Theatre is proud to present the world premiere of Naomi Iizuka?s newest work, Ghostwritten directed by Lisa Portes as part of the Goodman's Strong Women, Strong Voices Owen Theatre Series. The 2004 recipient of the Joyce Award, Ghostwritten runs April 4 thru May 3, 2009 in the Owen Bruner Theatre. Tickets are $10 $39. In conjunction with the Strong Women, Strong Voices? series, Goodman Theatre partners with six of Chicagos most exciting theater companies focused on presenting and supporting work by women for Taking the Stage: A Celebration of Women Making Theater, a celebration of the distinct voices and visions of women theater artists, and the opportunities and obstacles facing women working in the theater today.
