Producing Artistic Director Chuck Tobin today announced the August 3rd opening of the musical comedy Pete 'n' Keely, at Saint Michael's Playhouse (August 3 - 13). 

?GABRIELLE STRAVELLI - the celebrated pop/jazz vocalist and songwriter called an "outstanding singer" by The Wall Street Journal and "hotter than the equator" by The Village Voice - will introduce a new evening celebrating the legendary songwriters Johnny Mercer and Hoagy Carmichael at Kitano Jazz (66 Park Avenue at 38th Street) on Wednesday, July 13 with sets at 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM. In addition to well-known standards by Mercer ("Dream") and Carmichael ("Stardust") and compositions they wrote together ("Skylark," "In The Cool Cool Cool of the Evening"), the show includes collaborations with other composers and lyricists. The evening also features rare material by the pair from their Broadway Show I Walk With Music and movies from the 1950s and 60s. She will be joined by Art Hirahara on piano, Pat O'Leary on bass and Eric Halvorson on drums.

?Jazz trumpeter Harry "Sweets" Edison and actor Hal Williams will take their place on the Lincoln Theatre Walk of Fame in an induction ceremony on Saturday, July 30, at 7 pm. Sponsored by State Auto Insurance Companies, the event is free and open to the public.

?Acclaimed vocalist GABRIELLE STRAVELLI and celebrated jazz pianist MICHAEL KANAN will release the powerfully intimate new duet recording Stairway to the Stars on June 24. Dale Head (dalehead.net), a jazz and blues powerhouse vocalist and trumpet player, today announced that he will be celebrating the hundredth anniversary of the birth of the voice of the 20th century, Frank Sinatra, by reviewing 40 years of his amazing career. 'From his early days to his retirement in 1972 and his comeback in the Main Event, Frank Sinatra lived a life of legends,' said Dale Head. 'With this performance, we will show you how Frank rose to stardom, fell from grace, and came back, multiple times to be the most iconic entertainer of the 20th Century. Using photos, videos, creative narration, and recreating some remarkable vocal duets, our goal is to give you a taste of what it might have been like to be in the studio at Capital with Nelson Riddle, in the audience at the Sand with County Basie and Quincy Jones, or finally at Madison Square Garden when none other than Howard Cosell introduced Sinatra as a boxer making his comeback in the Main Event.'

On December 12 singer Frank Sinatra Jr. will perform a 100th Birthday Celebration of his father Frank Sinatra's music at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills at 9 pm. In our talk he describes the concert in detail. He also talks about his mentors and what music he prefers to listen to nowadays. When and how did this celebration concert come about? When Frank Sinatra died back in 1998 I engineered a celebrational show which I intended to run for eighteen months to two years, to celebrate his life and his career. The show at that time was called Sinatra Sings Sinatra. As it turned out, the audiences and the people who hired our program wanted very much to keep Sinatra Sings Sinatra going long after two years had passed. By now we were getting close to going into the 21st century, and it has been so ever since. Now we come to December the 12th forthcoming here which will have been his 100th birthday. OK! Two years ago I discussed with my family and the people that we work with the importance of organizing a special series of events to commemorate his 100th year. I was wondering whether or not  this was a little bit of overkill at the time, but I have been told such things happen for people like Duke Wayne, Bing Crosby and people of that situation that they have these big festivals, recapitulations, tributes, you name it. In 2013 I started writing a show for the end of 2015. That show debuted in May this year.
