Rattlestick Playwrights Theater's Artistic Director David Van Asselt and Managing Director Brian Long have announced the cast and creative team for the world premiere of The Revisionist, written by Jesse Eisenberg and directed by Kip Fagan. Previously announced cast members Jesse Eisenberg and Vanessa Redgrave will be joined by Daniel Oreskes.

Barry Edelstein Appointed Artistic Director of The Old Globe

The Board of Directors of The Old Globe today announced the appointment of Barry Edelstein as Artistic Director. A nationally-recognized director, producer, author and educator, Edelstein will work together with Managing Director Michael G. Murphy to lead San Diego's flagship arts institution. Both Edelstein and Murphy will report jointly to the Board of Directors. Currently the Director of The Public Theater's Shakespeare Initiative in New York City, Edelstein will assume the artistic directorship of The Old Globe on Nov. 1 and will reside full-time in San Diego in January 2013.

Novelist Nathan Englander discusses his new play, The Twenty-Seventh Man, with the theater director Barry Edelstein, in a conversation moderated by the journalist Alexis Soloski. Set in a Russian prison in 1952, the play is adapted from one of Englander's stories in the collection For the Relief of Unbearable Urges. It will be performed at The Public Theater from November 7 to December 9.

The stars came out on Thursday as The Public Theater celebrated the completion of the $40 million revitalization of its downtown home at Astor Place with a special rededication ceremony. The event featured the "throwing out of the first lines" of Shakespeare by city officials and artists with ties to The Public, followed by a special performance from the cast of Hair, which had its world premiere at The Public when it opened in 1967.

The eight weeks of community events will be anchored by a free block party and open house on Saturday, October 13, 12pm-5pm, during which Lafayette Street between Astor Place and East 4th Street will be partially closed to traffic and The Public's historic building will be open to all.
