BWW Reviews: SMT's SWEET CHARITY Fails to Engage With Its Story

Cy Coleman, Dorothy Fields and Neil Simon's "Sweet Charity", currently playing at Seattle Musical Theatre, is not a perfect musical. There's plenty that it has going for it but it's loaded with plenty of extraneous things as well. The story is fairly depressing, the book is too wordy and there are some songs that just plain don't need to be there. So in order to get it to engage it has to be done just right. Well, unfortunately I still haven't seen a production that was there.

Chris Isaacson Presents and Upright Cabaret have announced the final concerts of Molly Ringwald's West Coast Tour on Sunday, March 8 at the Catalina Bar & Grill in Hollywood. The tour, which has included more than 160 performances in seven countries and is now on its way home to Los Angeles with upcoming appearances in San Francisco, San Diego, and Palm Springs, will play two shows at Catalina at 7pm and 9:30pm.

The Meeting* hosted by Justin Sayre, the acclaimed comedy/variety show, will return to JOE'S PUB at The Public Theater on Sunday, January 18 at 9:30 PM to open the Winter/Spring 2015 Season. The Meeting* has been called 'delicious and delightfully droll' by The New York Post and 'hilarious and sardonic' by The Village Voice. A story for Slate.com called the evening 'so deliciously icy that it left me shivering with fear and delight.' The Fall 2014 shows sold out after a New York Times 'Arts & Leisure' piece ran in September. The January show will include a tribute to Broadway legend Ethel Merman, with special guests Klea Blackhurst, Erin Markey, Nora Mae Lyng, Molly Pope and Ben Rimalower.
