The McCallum Theatre recently announced its new lineup as it begins its fourth decade of presenting world-class artists and entertainers for Coachella Valley audiences. The new season includes McCallum debuts, iconic superstars, family-friendly entertainment, holiday sensations, and an outstanding roster of Broadway favorites including Jersey Boys, Spamalot and Something Rotten. I had the opportunity to catch up with McCallum President and CEO, Mitch Gershenfeld, to reflect on a very successful 2017-18 season and to get his thoughts on the blockbuster season ahead. (I will say at the start, I am a big fan of Mr. Gershenfeld for consistently bringing diverse and high-quality entertainment to desert audiences and for his constant optimism and positive energy.) Here are a few excerpts from our interview:

Basketball Coach Jim Valvano once said that there are three things you should do every day: You should learn something, you should laugh and you should be moved to tears. TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE fulfills all three of these requirements. Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of The New York Times best-selling book by Mitch Albom when TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE THE PLAY comes to the stage at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Sunday, November 5 at 7pm as part of the Ridgefield Magazine Broadway and Cabaret Series and is partially underwritten by Books on the Common and Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association with support from the Ridgefield Library. In this new production of the book, fans can relive the touching and at-times funny story chronicling the relationship between an old professor dying of ALS and his former student who visits him every Tuesday for the last class of Morrie's life. Gabriele Angieri (Morrie) is a Minneapolis based stage and screen actor and Brandon Ewald (Mitch) is a stage actor and choreographer.

It's been a morbid time for 'the country's leading musical satirist' (The Times); he's turned 47 - over the hill by anyone's standards - his personal life is in turmoil, and his childhood heroes are dropping like flies. At times like these, a man feels the Reaper creeping up on him... But is death anything to fear? And is it really the end? (Yes. Yes it is, sorry!) Mitch Benn confronts his - and YOUR - mortality with hilarious (and tuneful) consequences. Join him! It's time you're not getting back!

Mitch Fatel Comes to Comedy Works South at the Landmark

Is that a sparkle in his eye or is he just confused? With his innocence and friendly demeanor, Mitch quickly engages the audience and then catches them off guard with his mixture of mischievous dialog and off color comments. While laughing at observations only Mitch can get away with, we are left wondering if he truly understands what he just said. We never really know.
