Peak Performances presents the world premiere of Spinning, a collaborative musical work written and composed by Pulitzer Prize winner and MacArthur Fellow Julia Wolfe (Anthracite Fields, 2015), and conceived with "cello goddess" (The New Yorker) Maya Beiser, with multimedia projections by innovative artist Laurie Olinder (May 10-13). Commissioned by Peak Performances and culminating their season of works by women, Spinning considers the essential labor of spinning thread-work once performed by hand by women-paying homage to the human dignity of this "women's work."

Bang on a Can announces its 2018 Bang on a Can Marathon, presented for the first time at the NYU Skirball on Sunday, May 13, 2018 from 12-10pm. This incomparable super-mix of boundary-busting music from around the corner and around the world features ten hours of rare performances by some of the most innovative musicians of our time, side-by-side with some of today's most pioneering young artists. This year, the Bang on a Can Marathon will be streamed via Facebook Live on Bang on a Can's Facebook page and at bangonacan.org. Schimmel Center with the Knickerbocker Chamber Orchestra presents the world premiere of The Struggle to Forgive: Confronting Gun Violence in America on Friday, May 4, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. Led by Music Director and Conductor Gary S. Fagin, the new cantata-which has a libretto by Fagin and features soprano Mikaela Bennett, mezzo-soprano Sarah Heltzel, and baritone Jorell Williams-gives voice to those whose lives have been impacted by gun violence in the United States, including victims and their families.

Bang on a Can and the Jewish Museum's 2017-18 concert season, which focuses on pioneering female artists, concludes on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at 7:30pm with a performance by cellist, composer, and improviser Tomeka Reid. Reid will perform with the Tomeka Reid Quartet, her own collection of leading Chicago and New York-based musicians, including Jason Roebke, bass; Mary Halvorson, guitar; and Tomas Fujiwara, drums. The ensemble will perform new compositions, combining her love of groove along with freer concepts, inspired by the themes in Scenes from the Collection, a new, major exhibition of the Jewish Museum's unparalleled collection featuring nearly 600 works from antiquities to contemporary art.

Florida Repertory Theatre is pleased to announce the extension of the John Kander and Fred Ebb classic, "Cabaret.' Because of overwhelming demand, three performances have been added at the end of the scheduled run, April 12 at 7 PM, April 13 at 8 PM, and April 14 at 2 PM.

György Ligeti's life was filled with drama. He escaped Nazi extermination in a Jewish labor camp and eventually fled totalitarian oppression at the hands of the liberating Soviets in Hungary. His music's dense melodic webs and conflicting rhythms-along with a host of other experimental sounds, shapes, and forms-embody the dreams, fantasies, and nightmares of a life lived on the edge.

On Monday evening, March 5, at 7 p.m. with every seat in Jazz at Lincoln Center's Rose Theater occupied, more than 425 singers in the Young People's Chorus of New York City opened the celebration of their storied 30-year history by singing 'Why We Tell the Story' written by Broadway's powerhouse songwriting team Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, among the evening's special guests, who also helped host. Under the leadership of YPC Artistic Director Francisco J. Nuñez and Associate Artistic Director Elizabeth Nuñez, YPC was also joined by renowned baritone Lester Lynch as well as Broadway's Jenn Colella from 'Come From Away' and Jordan Donica, soon to be featured in 'My  Fair Lady.'

Alarm Will Sound, the contemporary music ensemble known for testing the boundaries of musical performance, presents a program resembling a live podcast, featuring the music of György Ligeti and titled This Music Should Not Exist on Friday, March 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Zankel Hall.

Composer Lisa Bielawa celebrates the receipt of a 2017 Music Award from the American Academy of Arts & Letters, an honor society of the country's 250 leading architects, artists, composers, and writers. In 1941, the Academy established awards to encourage creative work in the arts and each year the Academy honors over 70 composers, artists, architects, and writers with awards and prizes ranging from $5000 to $100,000. Candidates for awards must be nominated by an Academy member and the recipients are chosen by committees whose members are drawn from the Academy's roster. Now $10,000 each, Arts and Letters Awards are given annually to five artists, eight writers, four composers, and four architects. Composers receive an additional $10,000 toward the recording of a work.

Grand Band, a New York-based "supergroup" (New York Times) formed by pianists Erika Dohi, David Friend, Paul Kerekes, Blair McMillen, Lisa Moore and Isabelle O'Connell, makes its Midwest debut at the Ordway Concert Hall on Wednesday, May 16. Their performance features the world premiere of Degenerate Psalms by Missy Mazzoli alongside music by Julius Eastman, Michael Gordon, Paul Kerekes and Kate Moore.
