ABT Celebrates 70th Anniversary Season With Gala 5/17

American Ballet Theatre will celebrate its 70th Anniversary Season with an Opening Night Gala on Monday, May 17 at 6:30 P.M. Mrs. Michelle Obama will serve as Honorary Chairman, along with Caroline Kennedy and Blaine Trump. The Spring Gala will honor David H. Koch for 25 years of service to ABT and its Board of Governing Trustees.

American Ballet Theatre will celebrate its 70th Anniversary Season with an Opening Night Gala on Monday, May 17 at 6:30 P.M. Mrs. Michelle Obama will serve as Honorary Chairman, along with Caroline Kennedy and Blaine Trump. The Spring Gala will honor David H. American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) and gala co-chairs Lesley Clement and Carlie Wilmans are proud to announce A.C.T.'s 2009-10 season gala, the Crystal Ball. San Francisco First Lady and A.C.T. Conservatory alumna Jennifer Siebel Newsom and Ken McNeely, president, AT&T California, serve as honorary co-chairs. AT&T is the presenting sponsor for the event. Headlining this special evening is one of the A.C.T. Master of Fine Arts Program's most celebrated graduates, Tony Award-winning actress Anika Noni Rose, whose credits include roles on film (the lead in Disney's The Princess and the Frog and Dreamgirls) and Broadway (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Caroline, or Change).

Program and Young Conservatory present the world premiere production of Riot, celebrated Irish playwright Ursula Rani Sarma's hard-hitting play, in the newest commission from A.C.T.'s international partnership with Britain's Theatre Royal Bath. Directed by Young Conservatory Director Craig Slaight and featuring young actors from the A.C.T. M.F.A. Program and Young Conservatory, Riot follows the story of a young man who lands in a residency clinic for emotionally disturbed teens following an unexpected act of violence. Riot weaves Max's relationships with his fellow patients, his doctor, and his nurses into a moving portrait of the deep human need for connection. The show plays April 1-17, 2010, at Zeum Theater, located at Yerba Buena Gardens (Fourth and Howard streets). Tickets are $15.50-$20.50 and are available by calling A.C.T. On Monday evening, March 22 at 7:00 P.M., American Ballet Theatre will present its fourteenth Culinary Pas de Deux, a unique evening of dining and dancing, at Pier Sixty in New York City. Hosted by ABT Principal Dancer Marcelo Gomes and Soloist Craig Salstein, the event celebrates superb cuisine, fine wines, exciting cocktails and world-class dance. Along with creative samplings from some of New York City's most celebrated chefs, pairings from several premier wineries and specially designed cocktails by the city's top mixologists, the evening will also feature original performances by several ABT dancers.

'Equus' Award Winning Drama Comes To New Theatre

EQUUS by Tony winning playwright Peter Shaffer comes to New Theatre after its successful 2008 Broadway run. It is the primal and electric story about a 17 year old stable boy and the psychiatrist who seeks to understand the sexual and religious mystery which led the boy to commit an unspeakable and unbelievable act. Mr. Shaffer was inspired to write Equus after hearing about a crime involving a 17-year-old and set out to construct a fictional account of what might have caused the incident, without knowing any of the details of the crime.

The Women of A.C.T. Perform THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES

The women of American Conservatory Theater perform Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues as part of the national V-Day celebration. All proceeds from the event, which is spearheaded and produced by members of the A.C.T. Master of Fine Arts Program, will go to La Casa de les Madres women's shelter in San Francisco and the V-Day organization. The cast features A.C.T. core acting company member René Augesen, A.C.T. Artistic Director Carey Perloff, and A.C.T. Conservatory Director Melissa Smith, joined by a selection of A.C.T. staff members, A.C.T. M.F.A. Program students, and Bay Area actresses.
