Many of the events and characters portrayed in the show- Japan's self-imposed isolation from the world, the fisherman Manjiro, the Tokugawa shogunate, the Meiji revolution and its consequences - are as familiar to an Japanese schoolchild as George Washington and the Revolutionary war are to Americans. This rarely produced show mixes elements of traditional Japanese theatre with the Broadway musical. The original 1976 production was nominated for a whopping ten Tony Awards including best musical, book and score.

With a book by John Weidman (Assassins), Pacific Overtures features music and lyrics by Broadway legend, Stephen Sondheim. Spring Awakening star Hunter Parrish was featured in the New York Times theater section yesterday, the WEEDS actor gives a brief interview about performing the Broadway show and how the stage continues to inspire him. Parrish has been a wonderful addition to the Great White Way these last number of months, bringing dynamic energy to the production and giving of his time and talents to the entire Broadway community. Producer Howard Panter for Ambassador Theatre Group and co-producers Tulchin/Bartner/Jenkins, Bill Kenwright, Northwater Entertainment, Darren Bagert, and Tom Gregory announced the complete cast and design team for the new Broadway production of the greatest musical comedy GUYS AND DOLLS. The first joint Broadway project by two-time Tony Award winning director Des McAnuff and choreographer Sergio Trujillo since their collaboration on the Tony Award winning musical Jersey Boys, GUYS AND DOLLS will begin previews on February 3, 2009 at Broadway's newly refurbished Nederlander Theatre (208 West 41st Street). Opening Night is March 1, 2009.

Lauren Graham (Golden Globe Award nominee for 'Gilmore Girls') will make the leap back into primetime reports Variety. The entertainment trade publication reveals that 'ABC has given a production commitment to a new comedy starring Graham, who will play a self-help guru who teaches women how to live a stress-free life -- but struggles to follow her own advice when her boyfriend dumps her.'

The Hollywood Reporter stated today that Martha Plimpton, currently starring in the Broadway revival of Pal Joey at Studio 54, will be part of the cast of the new Showtime pilot 'The End of Steve.'

Spring Awakening continues its record-breaking run at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre, 230 West 49th Street. The production welcomed several new cast members, including 'WEEDS' star Hunter Parrish. The musical, with music by Duncan Sheik and book and lyrics by Steven Sater is choreographed by Bill T. Jones and directed by Michael Mayer.
