THE AMERICAN DANCE FESTIVAL Wraps Up 84th Season and 40th Year in North Carolina

This week at the American Dance Festival (ADF) the ADF performance series and the Six Week School merge in the exciting Footprints program on Tuesday, July 25 and Wednesday, July 26 at 8:00pm. Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company present the world premiere of the full Analogy: A Trilogy on Thursday, July 27 and Friday, July 28 at 8:00pm and Saturday, July 29 at 7:00pm (different program each night). The 2017 Samuel H. Scripps/ADF Award will be presented to Lucinda Childs prior to the Footprints program on Tuesday, July 25 at 8:00pm.

Trajal Harrell's HOOCHIE KOOCHIE Performance Exhibition Set for Barbican Art Gallery

This summer, Barbican Art Gallery presents the first ever performance exhibition of the New York- based choreographer and dancer Trajal Harrell. Following a two-year residency at The Museum of Modern Art, New York (2014 - 2016), this ambitious project stages over 14 of Harrell's performances including one of the earliest works he created in 1999, right through to now in a changing, daily programme of live performances.

AteNine and Ballet Hispanico Come to Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival

Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival presents AteNine in the Doris Duke Theatre, July 26-30. AteNine, formerly Ate9dANCEcOMPANY, is led by Artistic Director and choreographer Danielle Agami, named “choreography's It girl” by the LA Times. A former dancer and rehearsal director of the world-renowned Batsheva Dance Company, Agami draws from her background in Gaga movement practice to create bold, innovative work. The program will include two works: Exhibit b and excerpts from vickie. AteNine dancers move with an intense clarity praised as “odd, fleeting, and gorgeous, it left you wanting much, much more” (Janet Smith, The Georgia Straight).

This week, the American Dance Festival (ADF) presents the debuts of Roy Assaf and Ate9 Dance Company on Tuesday, July 18 at 8:00pm and Jennifer Nugent and Paul Matteson and Kimberly Bartosik/daela on Saturday, July 22 and Sunday, July 23 at 7:00pm and 9:00pm. Mark Morris Dance Group performs with live music by the Durham Symphony, North Carolina Master Chorale, and members of the Mark Morris Dance Group Music Ensemble on Friday, July 21 at 8:00pm and Saturday, July 22 at 7:00pm. Mark Morris Dance Group will also present a Saturday Children's Matinee on July 22 at 1:00pm. FREE ADF School Tours continue through July 21 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, at 9:15am and 11:15am.

In 1994 Disney's animated feature The Lion King was the cartoon movie that broke barriers and was popular with adults and children. With its textual references to William Shakespeare's HAMLET, this age old tale is one that no one needs to go in depth about. In July of 1997, Julie Taymor along with original cartoon creatives Elton John and Tim Rice debuted a Broadway bound music that was sure to revolutionize storytelling. REDCAT, CalArts' downtown center for contemporary arts, announces the 14th annual New Original Works (NOW) Festival, a three-week celebration of Los Angeles' vibrant community of artists creating new contemporary performance works. This year's festival runs over three weekends: Thursday to Saturday, July 27-29, August 3-5 and August 10-12 at 8:30 pm. Each weekend premieres a triple bill, presenting a shared evening of dance, theater and multimedia work. Each program is premiered on Thursday evening and repeated Friday and Saturday evenings.

Based in Israel, Roy Assaf Dance makes its U.S. debut with a program of clever and heartfelt works in the Doris Duke Theatre July 12-16. A rising choreographic star, Assaf has been commissioned by companies across the globe including Batsheva Dance Company, The Royal Swedish Ballet, National Dance Company Wales, and LA Dance Project. The program opens with Assaf's embracing duet Six Years Later which is praised for its "beauty, nuances, and intricate, astute movements" (Ora Brafman, Jerusalem Post), and closes with his powerful all-male trio The Hill, inspired by veterans' experiences and based on the Hebrew song "Givat Hatachmoshet".

Nimbus Dance Works' Announce New Location for 2017-18 Season

Facing an August 31st deadline to identify a new home, Nimbus Dance Works announces that the organization, one of Jersey City's largest professional arts non-profits, and a leading dance organization statewide, will relocate to 165 Newark Avenue for the 2017-18 season, adjacent to the Newark Avenue Pedestrian Plaza. With two dance studios, office and storage space, Nimbus' new location will house the professional company and Nimbus2 (second company), the School of Nimbus Dance Works, the NimbusPresents performance series, and company offices from which Nimbus administers dance education programs throughout the Jersey City school system. Nimbus has announced a campaign to raise funds and for in-kind items to support the move to the new location.
