Each year, savvy jazz fans look forward to the annual Highlights In Jazz series. For almost a half century, the Jack Kleinsinger-produced events have brought together a multitude of beloved jazz musicians spanning an eclectic mix of generations and styles. The 2019 season is no exception, with four stellar concerts featuring some of the brightest luminaries in jazz today.

Brooklyn Music School (BMS) presents the 6th Annual Middle School Jazz Festival on Saturday, March 2, 2019 from 12pm to 6:30pm, with a concert at 4:30pm, followed by a jam session with students, faculty, and guest artist. BMS is located at 126 Saint Felix Street, Brooklyn. Concert tickets are a $10 suggested donation.

The 47th season of Highlights In Jazz kicks off with an all-star concert featuring pianist/vocalist Daryl Sherman, saxophonist Houston Person, trumpeter Warren Vaché, clarinetist/saxophonist Ken Peplowski, pianist Norman Simmons, bassist Boots Maleson, and guitarist James Chirillo, plus a special surprise guest.

LML Music will present acclaimed cabaret and recording artist Stacy Sullivan in a one night only concert celebrating the release of her new album entitled Tornado Alley, at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall on Thursday January 24, 2019 at 8:00PM.

You'll hear unforgettable performances from jazz veterans including Warren Vaché, Houston Person, and Norman Simmons; up-and-comers like Veronica Swift, Christian Sands, and Peter and Will Anderson; and straight-ahead stalwarts such as Steve Turre, George Cables, Buster Williams, along with many more. These gifted players and others will pay tribute to a pantheon of jazz legends, including this year's featured honoree, trumpeter Randy Brecker; plus, the music of Randy Weston, Erroll Garner, Sidney Bechet, Louis Armstrong will also be featured.

Why have so many songwriters been compelled to write about New York? What is it about this city that fuels an endless supply of stories? Deborah Grace Winer's new show NEW YORK: BIG CITY SONGBOOK offers a kaleidoscopic vision of life in the city, from the inspiring and romantic to the aggravating and the quirky. New York is a fabulous character, and Deborah has assembled a great cast of real New Yorkers (meaning they come from everywhere) to take us on this entertaining and exhilarating musical ride in search of what it really means to be a New Yorker.

In his own quiet way, jazz drummer Glenn Davis provided rock solid support not only for the many musicians with whom he worked, but for the friends and family who were devoted to him. Many of them will gather at the Delaware Water Gap's Deer Head Inn for a celebration of his life and a fund raiser for the American Parkinson Disease Association on Thursday, October 11 from 7:00 until 11:00 p.m.

The Musicians of the San Francisco Opera Orchestra present a companion piece to Richard Wagner's The Ring of the Nibelung cycle in partnership with jazz composer and pianist Valerie Capers and her musical collaborator, bassist John Robinson III. Wagner Takes the 'A' Train is a meeting of musical styles that will please both opera devotees and jazz lovers alike. In conversation with San Francisco Opera Dramaturg, Kip Cranna, Dr. Capers will reflect on the influences of Wagner and his mighty Ring cycle on her work as a composer. Proceeds benefit the African American Composers Initiative, dedicated to commissioning and presenting the work of African American composers, past and present. Lost and Found Productions is pleased to announce casting for its world premiere musical BURNHAM'S DREAM: THE WHITE CITY, the story of visionary architect Daniel H. Burnham and Chicago's great World's Fair of 1893.

Roberta Piket, one of the most virtuosic and versatile pianists on the current international jazz scene, revisits the iconic jazz piano trio format with the April 6 release of 'West Coast Trio' on her label Thirteenth Note Records. Joining Piket is the consummate rhythm section of drummer Joe La Barbera and bassist Darek Oleszkiewicz-part of the vibrant West Coast jazz scene centered in metro-Los Angeles and whose presence inspired the album's title. Guitarist Larry Koonse guests on two tracks.

The Ladies Day Jazz Quartet will kick off Women's History Month with a performance at Club Bonafide, 212 East 52nd Street, New York, NY, on Thursday, March 1st, 2018 at 7:30 pm.

The story of visionary architect Daniel H. Burnham and Chicago's great World's Fair comes to life in Lost and Found Productions' world premiere musical BURNHAM'S DREAM: THE WHITE CITY, with book and lyrics by June Finfer, music and lyrics by Elizabeth Doyle, direction by Erik Wagner, music direction by Linda Madonia and choreography by Jessica Texidor. Celebrating the 125th anniversary of the 1893 World's Fair, this lively new musical will play June 1 - July 1, 2018 at Theater Wit, 1229 W. Belmont Ave. in Chicago. CYNTHIA SAYER, the internationally celebrated jazz banjoist and vocalist, will lead her Joyride Quartet in The Hot Jazz Banjo Show in a rare New York City concert appearance at the legendary jazz club Birdland on Thursday, March 15 at 6:00 PM. Birdland is located at 315 W. 44th Street in Manhattan. Tickets: $30.

The National Endowment for the Arts has selected JoAnne Brackeen as a winner of its distinguished Jazz Masters Award for 2018.
