The Public Theater presents the American play Eclipsed, written by Danai Gurira. Directed by Obie Award winner Liesl Tommy and featuring Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong'o in her New York stage debut, this powerful story of survival and resilience opens at The Public Theater tonight, October 14, and will now run an additional two weeks through Sunday, November 29.

CUBA LIBRE World Premiere at Artists Rep Extends to November 15

Artists Repertory Theatre extends the world premiere production of the Broadway-scale new musical Cuba Libre through November 15. Due to robust advance ticket sales, Artists Rep has added a full week of performances, as well as additional shows within the originally announced run, even prior to the show's first preview performance on Saturday, October 3.

EgoPo welcomes guest director Adrienne Mackey, the founder of Swim Pony Performing Arts, to bring this classic to new life. Mackey is a locally celebrated director who creates original and compelling theater using the power of the human voice and the forms of the human body. Her works include The Ballad of Joe Hill for the Live Arts Festival and The Master and Margarita for Mum Puppettheatre. She is a past winner of CEC's New Edge Residency and the Independence Arts Fellowship.

Tampa Repertory Theatre will present Lillian Hellman's groundbreaking 1934 drama The Children's Hour in the Smith Black Box theater at Tampa Preparatory School, 727 West Cass Street in downtown Tampa, tonight, September 17 through October 4. BWW Review: Intiman's THE CHILDREN'S HOUR Builds Beautifully

The tragic circumstances and attitudes of Lillian Hellman's "The Children's Hour" may still have some resonance in today's more accepting world but the power and stakes of the piece when set in the unforgiving 1930's feels so much greater than the more progressive 1980's as the current production from The Intiman Theatre Festival updates it to. But even with the change in era and place the piece still hits hard especially in the more than capable hands of director Sheila Daniels.

Veteran local director Sheila Daniels (A Streetcar Named Desire, Crime and Punishment) returns to direct another American classic for Intiman Theatre: Lillian Hellman's The Children's Hour, featuring rising local star Hannah Mootz (Tail of Wasps, Bo-Nita) as Martha Dobie, newcomers Tiffany Yvonne Cox (Crumbs from the Table of Joy) as Karen Wright and Jasmine Jean Sim (Dirty, Grand Hotel) as Mary Tilford; and renowned local actor Suzanne Bouchard (Dear Elizabeth, Richard III) as Amelia Tilford.
