Schimmel Center at Pace University concludes its 2018-19 Cabaret Series with an evening of standards and musical theater selections composed by women titled Baby, Dream Your Dream: The Great Women Songwriters on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 7:30pm. Tickets start at $29 and can be purchased at SchimmelCenter.org, by phone at 212-346-1715, or by visiting the Schimmel Center Box Office at 3 Spruce Street, Manhattan. Box office hours are Tuesday-Saturday, Noon-5pm, and then beginning three hours prior to each performance, through intermission.

Trumpeter/composer CHRIS ROGERS has been a featured soloist with many iconic artists in Jazz and Latin-Jazz since the early 1980s, and is one of New York City's highly respected veteran trumpeters.  

Why have so many songwriters been compelled to write about New York? What is it about this city that fuels an endless supply of stories? Deborah Grace Winer's new show NEW YORK: BIG CITY SONGBOOK offers a kaleidoscopic vision of life in the city, from the inspiring and romantic to the aggravating and the quirky. New York is a fabulous character, and Deborah has assembled a great cast of real New Yorkers (meaning they come from everywhere) to take us on this entertaining and exhilarating musical ride in search of what it really means to be a New Yorker.

On Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 8pm, Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center (BMCM+AC) presents a special, free preview concert by Grammy-nominated vocalist Theo Bleckmann and jazz guitarist Ben Monder, part of BMCM+AC's celebration of its new permanent home at 120 College St. in downtown Asheville. For over 15 years, the Theo Bleckmann & Ben Monder Duo has toured the U.S., Europe, and Asia creating a unique approach to what might be called 'jazz art song,' blurring the boundaries between jazz, classical, ambient and rock.

With his signature Hammond organ style and versatility on many keyboards, Boston native Larry Goldings (b. 1968) has traversed not only the wide spectrum of jazz where he is perhaps best known, but also the worlds of funk, pop, and electronic music. High in demand as a sideman, Goldings' sound can be heard on scores of albums by artists in virtually every musical genre.

On Jazz It Up! Ukrainian Songs for Three Dads (Blue Griffin), jazz trumpeter Bob Arthurs and guitarist Steve LaMattina deliver an engaging and excitingly original offering that successfully-and charmingly-melds two genres: jazz and music from Ukraine's folkloric tradition.

Three superstars of Brazilian jazz bring their infectious, joyful music to the Bickford Theatre on Thursday, March 1, at 7:30 p.m. Formed in 1990 by guitarist Romero Lubambo, bassist Nilson Matta, and drummer Duduka de Fonseca, Trio da Paz brings new life to native Brazilian jazz with irresistible rhythms and dazzling improvisations.

Performing music from Duke Ellington, Monk, Jobim, Mingus,Toninho Horta, Stanley Turrentine, Noel Rosa and much more music from the American and Brazilian song book.

Boston Court Performing Arts Center presents Joanna Wallfisch: A Musical Portrait on Saturday, February 10 at 8:00pm. This concert will explore two extraordinary musical journeys. Her multimedia musical memoir, The Great Song Cycle Song Cycle is paired with her latest release, Blood and Bone for an intimate concert with the genre-blending singer and composer that the New York Times calls, "Introspective, sensitive and deep."

For more than thirty years, Turtle Island Quartet has reinvented the role of the modern string quartet through its Grammy-winning albums and arrangements. This spring, the Quartet honors the impact of legendary saxophonist Charlie Parker with a new album, Bird's Eye View, out February 9, 2018 from Azica. The Quartet will celebrate with a CD release concert at Buck's County Playhouse (70 S. Main Street, New Hope PA 18938) on February 10, 2018 at 8 pm. The genius of Parker's improvisations almost single-handedly catapulted jazz from pop style into art music, indelibly altering the musical landscape of America. The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts will officially re-open the Terrace Theater today, October 6, kicking off a month-long suite of performances that highlight the theater's unique position as the Center's most intimate and versatile space. The re-opening follows a 16-month renovation intended to update the theater and facilities, and enhance the overall guest experience.
