The Midtown International Theatre Festival (MITF) seeks script submissions for SHORT SUBJECTS, a series of plays that run under 60 minutes. The deadline for submissions is May 19, 2010.

Each year celebrities donate their artwork, or doodles, that are auctioned off in this annual fundraiser, at which The Barrow Group also honors individuals for their service to the arts and TBG. This year's honorees include Jon Marans and David Diamond.

GYPSY was, of course, one of the first scores on Broadway boasting lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and whether a leading lady the likes of Ethel Merman, Angela Lansbury, Tyne Daly, Bernadette Peters or Patti LuPone, it is a score unlike any other before or since and a true pinnacle of not only musical theatre, but all theatre, on Broadway and beyond. As BroadwayWorld previously reported, June Havoc, the real-life inspiration for 'Baby June' in GYPSY, passed away on March 28 at the age of 96.

Writes filmmaker McKay: ' An out-take from the Rick McKay film 'Broadway: The Golden Age' of the legendary JUNE HAVOC telling the story of getting her first big job on Broadway. Havoc is part of the cast of the sequel, 'Broadway: BEYOND the Golden Age,' opening in 2011. June was a lifetime veteran of show business, starring in Vaudeville in the 1920's, going on to great success on Broadway and in Hollywood, while unfortunately being known best as the inspiration for 'Baby June' in her sister Gypsy Rose Lee's autobiography 'Gypsy,' which became one of the most successful Broadway musicals ever created. But, this clip will give you an idea of her passion for the business - and for life - that was with her well into her 90's. June and I had numerous meetings in the 1990's about turning her story into a documentary, but our schedules never jibed and I made 'Broadway: The Golden Age' instead, including her. But, what I did make was a great friend, and I spent many nights there getting to know June. She was incredibly inspiring and life-affirming and I will miss her greatly . . . .'

Michael Musto in The Village Voice reports that June Havoc, the real-life inspiration for 'Baby June' in GYPSY passed away this morning at age 96.

Prescott Fine Arts Association presents the Broadway musical fable, GYPSY, directed by veteran PFAA director, Bruce Lanning. The final performance is slated for March 27, 2010.

Performances are March 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26 and 27 at 7:30 pm with matinees on March 14 and 21, 2010 at 2:00 pm. An opening night reception follows the performance.

Brian Hampton will produce the film adaptation of his play, Checking In, which was most recently seen in the 2009 Midtown International Theatre Festival under his production company, Small Town Dangerous.
