The Tony Award-winning Signature Theatre has announced the two musicals that have been chosen for the SigWorks: Musical Theater Lab, a new developmental workshop for musical theater writers - SKIN & BONES by Ben Clark and Andrew Kramer and U.G.L.Y. by Darius Smith.

The Public Theater has announced a one-week extension for the New York premiere of Head of Passes, part of Oskar Eustis' 10th anniversary season. Four-time Tony Award nominee Judy Kuhn will temporarily depart FUN HOME this spring to undergo hip surgery, and it's Rebecca Luker to the rescue! On April 5, the three-time Tony Award nominee will take over as the Bechdel family matriarch in the groundbreaking and Tony Award-winning Best Musical. Luker adds FUN HOME to her long list of Broadway credits, which already includes THE SECRET GARDEN, THE SOUND OF MUSIC, THE MUSIC MAN, MARY POPPINS, CINDERELLA, and many more. The women took the center stage last night at The Ladies Who Sing Sondheim- a gala benefit for Off-Broadway's esteemed Classic Stage Company. The evening was and directed by Tony Award winner John Doyle, who will become the company's new Artistic Director in July.  The evening included performances from Sondheim's canon by Patti LuPone (Gypsy), Victoria Clark (The Light in the Piazza), Cynthia Erivo (The Color Purple), Joaquina Kalukango (The Color Purple), Judy Kuhn (Fun Home, CSC's Passion), Marin Mazzie (Kiss Me, Kate) and Alexandra Silber(Fiddler on the Roof). Today in 1987, Les Miserables opened at the Broadway Theatre, where it ran for 6680 performances. Written by Claude-Michel Schonberg, based on the novel by Victor Hugo, Les Miserables is set in early 19th-century France. The plot follows the stories of many characters as they struggle for redemption and revolution. An ensemble that includes prostitutes, student revolutionaries, factory workers, and others joins the lead characters. In January 2010, it played its ten-thousandth performance in London, at Queen's Theatre in London's West End. On 3 October 2010, the show celebrated its 25th anniversary with three productions running in the same city: the original show at London's West End; the Twenty-Fifth Anniversary touring production at the original home of the show, the Barbican Centre; and the Twenty-Fifth Anniversary concert at London's O2 Arena. The original Broadway cast included Colm Wilkinson as Jean Valjean, David Bryant as Marius, Judy Kuhn as Cosette, Michael Maguire as Enjolras, Frances Ruffelle as Eponine, Braden Danner as Gavroche, Donna Vivino as Young Cosette, Jennifer Butt as Madame Thenardier, Leo Burmester as Thenardier, Randy Graff as Fantine, and Terrence Mann as Javert.

FUN HOME Will Become First Broadway Show to Take Part in Spotify Sessions

Fun Home, the groundbreaking and Tony Award-winning Best Musical, will become the first Broadway show to participate in Spotify Sessions, the music services' streaming program of intimate in-studio performances and conversations, it was announced today. The Fun Home session, which will be available beginning tomorrow, Friday, March 4, 2016 through Spotify, was recorded in front of a live audience on January 19 in New York City.
