The 2013 Atlanta Music Festival: African American Concert Music and American Culture returns to the city Sept. 18-21 with a series of performances, panel discussions and programs designed to explore the dynamic character of American music and arts through the lens of African American concert music.

George Street Playhouse and Artistic Director David Saint have announced casting for the opening production for the venerable theatre's fortieth season. Gettin' The Band Back Together (formerly titled Garage Band) is a rockin' valentine to the Garden State, and will be directed by Tony Award-winner John Rando - who also helmed The Toxic Avenger in New Brunswick (and New York) a few seasons back. Gettin' The Band Back Together will rock the house beginning Tuesday, September 24 and continue through Sunday, October 27. Opening night is set for Friday, October 4. Gettin' The Band Back Together is performed by special arrangement with Davenport Theatrical Enterprises, Inc. and Roy Putrino.

After completing its 39th Mainstage season, Hangar Theatre announces the fall performances of Back to the Garden, a musical tribute to folk-rock trailblazers Carole King, Joni Mitchell, and Laura Nyro, as a continuation of its annual CabarETC series playing September 20-21 at 8:00pm. Challenged by the traditional images of women in the music-industry, these prolific singer/songwriters paved the way for women in music, art, and life by bravely exploring territory outside the accepted confines of popular music. Back to the Garden celebrates these women, their influence and inspiration, directed by Amy Jones and featuring Melissa Hammans, Maddy Wyatt, and Shaleah Adkissonperforming with Julia Adamy (bass), Molly MacMillan(keys), with Barbara Merjan (drums), and Sue Terwilliger (guitar).

San Francisco Bay Area author, social entrepreneur and real life 'Fixer' Dr. Raye Mitchell, arrives in Atlanta on August 2nd to attend the 11th annual National Book Club Conference (NBCC), which is taking place August 2-4, 2013 at the Atlanta Marriott Buckhead Conference Center. The groundbreaking writer will join dynamic colleagues attending the conference to discuss her non-fiction book on innovation and change, 'The Laws of the New Game Changers: How to Make Breakthroughs That Take You Forward.' During the conference, Dr. Mitchell will excitedly introduce to Atlanta audiences her new fictional book series now in development, 'The Harvard Litigator: The Fixer for the Little Guy.'

Nobel Prize winner Brian Field's life hangs by a thread. The lone survivor of a shootout at the Nobel Prize ceremony, Brian's life suddenly causes time to split off into two dimensions, one where he lives and the other where he dies. Both storylines are brought to life in Mitchell Frogge's 2000 novel, 'The Physicist' (published by iUniverse), which is getting a revived marketing campaign in 2013.
