Walnut Street Theatre concludes its landmark 209th season with the ultimate feel-good musical, MAMMA MIA! Filled with ABBA's catchiest hits, and directed and choreographed by Richard Stafford, this high energy musical begins previews on May 15th, opens on May 23rd, and runs through July 15th on the Walnut Mainstage.

I have a confession to make. Though I have seen hundreds of plays and musicals since MAMMA MIA! premiered on Broadway in 2000, until I saw Riverside Theatre's giddily silly, yet oddly emotional production-running now through April 29- I had never seen this polarizing jukebox musical; neither on stage, nor screen. However, it would have been impossible for anyone with even a passing interest in theatre or pop culture to not have heard countless opinions about the show, both good and bad, over the years. Is MAMMA MIA! hokey? Yes, it is. Does it have plot holes large enough that you could scuba through? In spades. Nearly two decades after it premiered in London, does it already feel even more dated than its disco-era music would lead you to believe? Absolutely. But, if you go in knowing and accepting MAMMA MIA! for what it is, then it is also an absolutely transportively entertaining night at the theatre.

Riverside Theatre's production of Mamma Mia! adds two additional performances! Florence Foster Jenkins' life was a once in a lifetime phenomenon. Meryl played the part in the movie with Simon Helberg (better known as Howard in THE BIG BANG THEORY) portraying her accompanist Cosme McMoon.

Written by Stephen Temperley and directed by Debi Marcucci, the production begins with previews on September 12th, opens September 14th and continues through October 15th.

Closing their Mainstage Season, the Hangar Theatre presents Lanford Wilson's Pulitzer Prize-winning romantic comedy, Talley's Folly. Directed by the Hangar's artistic director Jen Waldman, Talley's Folly will run from tonight, July 30 until August 8, 2014. Join the cast, crew, and Hangar staff on opening night, Friday, July 31 at 8pm at the Hangar Theatre, located at 801 Taughannock Blvd, Ithaca, NY 14850 in Cass Park.

What truly impressed me about this show and Judy's demise were the layers involved in her downward spiral and elevating this play with the absolutely stunning musical numbers.

The Arvada Center is making a bold move with its current main-stage production. The regional premiere of END OF THE RAINBOW follows Judy Garland during a six week run in London six months before her tragic death. While it includes many of Judy's actual arrangements of some of her most loved songs, it isn't a musical. It is a play with music. End of the Rainbow is written by Peter Quilter. Performances are Tuesday - Saturday at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday at 1 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. Preview performances are March 21 - 23 at 7:30 p.m. Moderated talkbacks with the cast are offered on Friday, April 4 after the 7:30 p.m. show and Wednesday, April 9 after the 1:00 p.m. show. A re-conceived version of the Rodgers & Hart 1940 classic Pal Joey is now running at the Arkansas Repertory Theatre.
