Tonight, April 29th, at New York City's Pierre Hotel, the National Corporate Theatre Fund (NCTF) will honor Vanessa Williams, American Express and five resident theatres celebrating their 50th anniversary - Actors Theatre of Louisville, Guthrie Theater, Hartford Stage, Seattle Repertory Theatre and Trinity Repertory Company - at NCTF's annual Chairman's Awards Gala. Actor George Takei, star of the Broadway-bound musical Allegiance, emcees the event.

New York City Ballet's 2013-14 Season at Lincoln Center will feature performances of 50 ballets in celebration of New York City Ballet's 50th anniversary at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, which has been the Company's home since the New York State Theater (now the David H. Koch Theater) opened in April of 1964.
IFC Orders 11 New Comedy Projects for 2014

IFC today announced it is developing 11 new comedy projects for 2014 series consideration. Among them, the network has ordered three pilots and eight scripts, in line with the network's 'slightly off' sensibility that attracts a male skewing, adults 18-49 audience.

Garret Dillahunt ('Raising Hope'), Tom Felton (Harry Potter), and Jake Abel (The Host) are set to star in GHOSTS OF THE PACIFIC, the true story of three WWII Navy flyers cast adrift on the South Pacific in 1942. The feature will be produced by The American Film Company, which specializes in making movies based on true stories from America's past.

Each spring Symphony Space honors individuals and organizations who share its dedication to keeping the arts accessible to all New Yorkers. On April 15, 2013, the Spring Swing and Access to the Arts Awards Gala will honor Steven M. Alden, Louise Kerz Hirschfeld & Lewis B. Cullman, Luis Ubiñas, and the late Isaiah Sheffer. Co-chaired by Amy Wilson and David Flannery, and BD Wong, the 2013 Spring Swing Gala will be held at Capitale, located at 130 Bowery on the Lower East Side. The evening begins with cocktails and a silent auction at 6:30pm, followed by dinner and entertainment at 7:30 PM, and concludes with dancing and dessert.

Today in 2002, Sweet Smell of Success opened at the Martin Beck Theatre (now the Al Hirschfeld Theatre), where it ran for 109 performances. Created by Marvin Hamlisch (music), Craig Carnelia (lyrics), and John Guare (book), the show is based on the 1957 movie of the same name. It tells the story of a powerful newspaper columnist named J. J. Hunsecker (based on famed New York columnist Walter Winchell) who uses his connections to ruin his sister's relationship with a man he deems inappropriate. The show starred John Lithgow as J.J. Hunsecker, and Brian d'Arcy James as Sidney Falcone.

The director was Jack O'Brien, choreographer was Jerry Mitchell, scenic design by David Rockwell, costume design by Gregg carves, and lighting design was by Kenneth Posner. The cast included John Lithgow, Norbert Leo Butz, and Sherie Rene Scott, with Joanna Gleason and Gregory Jbara.
