Joo Won Ahn and Aran Bell have been promoted to the rank of Soloist with American Ballet Theatre.  The promotions, announced today by ABT Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie, become effective September 1, 2019.

20th Anniversary Youth America Grand Prix Ballet Competition Enters Finals Week

The world's largest student ballet scholarship competition - YOUTH AMERICA GRAND PRIX (YAGP) is celebrating its 20th Anniversary Season, with its NYC Finals held at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center. The week of ballet festivities will include YAGP's Final Round (April 17th), YAGP's critically acclaimed Stars of Today Meet the Stars of Tomorrow Gala performance and dinner (April 18th), with a repeat Gala performance on April 19th. Lastly, on April 20th, YAGP will present an International Dance School Festival, where dancers from all over the globe will perform works representing each school's style and artistic tradition, ranging from beloved classics to cutting-edge contemporary dance.

Houston Ballet announces that Artistic Director Stanton Welch AM has promoted Soo Youn Cho to the rank of Principal. Formally a First Soloist, Cho was promoted on the evening of December 23, 2018 after starring in Stanton Welch AM's The Nutcracker as the Sugar Plum Fairy. This well-deserved promotion is another welcomed celebration and symbol of triumph for the organization during its return to its home stage.

Boston Ballet proudly presents the return of Mikko Nissinen's The Nutcracker. Since its world premiere in 2012, Mikko Nissinen and Robert Perdziola's re-envisioned production has been delighting audiences and critics alike. The Nutcracker, set to Tchaikovsky's renowned score, opens November 29 with performances through December 30 at the Boston Opera House.

Nai-Ni Chen opened her 2019 season with a theme of collaboration and outreach, especially with other diverse, immigrant women choreographers from all over the world. On October 22, Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company will conduct a weeklong residency and choreographic exchange with Germany's HannahMaDance headed by Luxembourg/Trier based choreographer Hannah Ma. During the residency, Nai-Ni Chen will be developing a new work using the music of Chinese Bamboo Rap (Kuaiban), Chinese Martial Art and Hip-Hop. A final performance of the work-in-progress, currently titled Speaking in Tongues, will be shown to the public in Germany on Sunday, October 28, 2018. Boston Ballet is pleased to announce that Mischa Santora has been appointed the new music director. Most recently, Santora was the artistic director of the Spotlight Series at MacPhail Center for Music and the Minneapolis Music Company. He guest conducted for seven Boston Ballet performances of John Cranko's Romeo & Juliet last season and will conduct for the first time in his new role for Mikko Nissinen's The Nutcracker, which opens on Nov 29, 2018 at the Boston Opera House.

Maxime Quiroga will join the cast of the Mozart and Salieri when it returns by popular demand to the Artscape Opera House stage on 24 August for a limited season. Quiroga joins a stellar Cape Town City Ballet cast lead by Martin Milner as Mozart, Daniel Szybkowski and Ivan Boonzaier as Salieri and ballerinas Laura Bosenberg and Mariette Opperman as Constanze.
