Hartt Percussion's Concert Honoring John Cage Held At Millard Auditorium 4/18

The Hartt Percussion Ensemble presents a '57-Year Retrospective Musicircus of the Percussion Music of John Cage,' a seminal voice in American music and culture. The concert, free and open to the public, is about 85 minutes in length, and will take place on Saturday, April 18, at 7:30 PM in Millard Auditorium on the University of Hartford's West Hartford campus.

Problem Radical(s) is an experimental opera mixing everyday radical acts, a sprawling sculpture, massive inflating tarps, industrious performers, and hardcore noise. Each night, the performers navigate an ever-expanding, unstable installation. Musicians and singers reassemble the modular live electronic and instrumental score, evoking American radical thinkers, civic activists, and maneuverable personal blimps.

Violinist Midori Performs On 4/17 In Tiedtke Concert Hall

Child prodigy, U.N. Peace Ambassador, and educator-violinist Midori could equally be described as any of these. This superstar violinist began her career at age 11 with the New York Philharmonic and continues to astound audiences today with her virtuosic playing. Midori, with pianist Robert McDonald, will perform a recital on the Bach Festival Society's Visiting Artists Series Friday, April 17 at 8 p.m. in Tiedtke Concert Hall on the Rollins College Campus. Midori's program with the Bach Festival Society will feature a variety of works ranging from traditional to modern, including works by Schumann, Beethoven, Cage, and Enescu.

This season, the four-day Festival, which for six decades has become well known for its fearlessness in championing pioneering musical ideas and personalities, pushes the envelope again with programming that reflects the qualities that have made eighth blackbird a growing musical phenomenon-genre-defying variety in wildly collaborative and visually dramatic presentations.

Perry-Mansfield, the most legendary of all performing arts schools in the nation, will present a special one-night-only cabaret concert to benefit its scholarship fund, it was announced by Executive Director June Lindenmayer. 'The Art of Cabaret' scholarship fund benefit concert will be hosted by Andrea Marcovicci and Karen Mason, and will feature performances by Barry Kleinbort and Terri Ralston (Perry-Mansfield master teachers), and musical directors Christopher Denny, Shelly Markham, and David Gaines.

The innovative modern dance troupe, Merce Cunningham Dance Co., will perform two of its works, 'Second Hand' and 'eyeSpace' at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Lied Center for Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. March 7. Widely recognized as the greatest living modern dance choreographer, Cunningham has been praised internationally for decades for his revolutionary work.

PS Classics to Record THE STORY OF MY LIFE for June Release

The producers of THE STORY OF MY LIFE and record label PS CLASSICS announced today that they will collaborate on an original cast recording of the Broadway production, set for March 13th. Producer Chase Mishkin said ?I?m thrilled that the wonderful Will Chase and Malcolm Gets will go into the studio to preserve this score as only they can. I hope this gives audiences in the US and around the world a chance to discover a fresh writing team in Neil Bartram and Brian Hill?. Tommy Krasker, co-founder of PS Classics and producer of the recording, anticipates a June 2nd release.
