Searing drama and epic lyricism open the Canadian Opera Company's 2016/2017 season with a new production of Bellini's Norma. 

The Glimmerglass Festival, which presents four mainstage productions of opera and musical theater as well as many events every summer, has released the details of its 2017 schedule.

The new comedy Charles Busch's CLEOPATRA, directed by Busch's longtime collaborator Carl Andress (The Tribute Artist, Judith of Bethulia, The Divine Sister), is currently playing Theater for the New City, which marks the third consecutive sold-out run for Busch at Theater for the New City. The premiere production, directed by Busch's longtime collaborator Carl Andress (The Tribute Artist, Judith of Bethulia, The Divine Sister) will play a limited engagement of 22 performances fromFriday, March 25 through April 17, 2016.

The company's 39th season from October 2016 to May 2017 will feature four main stage productions and a chamber opera that encompass some of opera's greatest tales of the human condition and matters of the heart.

Fresh off its world-premiere run in Minneapolis, Children's Theatre Company's new production about an 11-year-old spelling prodigy comes to Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater. The show is adapted for the stage by veteran playwright Cheryl L. West (Arena's Pullman Porter Blues, Jar the Floor), who partners with celebrated director Charles Randolph-Wright (director of Broadway's Motown and an inaugural resident playwright with Arena Stage, where he premiered his play Love in Afghanistan). All in all, this is a thoroughly enjoyable production and one that I would highly recommend.

Lyric Opera of Chicago presents the Tudor tragedy ?Anna Bolena by Gaetano Donizetti (1797-1848) in a new production conducted by Patrick Summers and directed by Kevin Newbury. It opens on Saturday, December 6 with 8 performances through Friday, January 16. Performance dates are Dec. 6, 9, 15, Jan. 7, 10, and 16 at 7:30pm; and Dec. 12 and 21 at 2pm.
