Drury Lane Theatre announces complete casting for its production of Smokey Joe's Cafe, the musical revue celebrating the renowned musical duo Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller.

Nominated for eight Tony® Awards, Smokey Joe's Cafe is a musical revue showcasing 39 pop standards from the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's, including rock and roll and rhythm and blues songs written by songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. The Original Broadway cast recording, Smokey Joe's Cafe: The Songs Of Leiber And Stoller, won a Grammy Award in 1996. After a Los Angeles tryout, the revue opened on Broadway in 1995, running for 2,036 performances, making it the longest -running musical revue in Broadway history. It also had a London run in 1996. The show will open at Jacksonville's Alhambra Theatre & Dining on August 3, 2016.

Last year, it was announced that a Broadway revival of SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE was on the way for summer 2016, with direction by Jerry Zaks and choreography by Warren Carlyle. Those plans never panned out, but now according to an Equity casting notice, the show, which holds the record as Broadway's longest running revue (2036 performances), will get a NYC developmental lab with a different creative team. A presentation will be held on September 24, under the direction of John Rando, with choreography by Joshua Bergasse.

Drury Lane Theatre announces it will open its 2017-2018 season with Chicago, the first production of the show to be produced in the city of Chicago in more than three decades. Jeff Award Winning Artistic Director, William Osetek, will direct the iconic musical, based on the play by Maurine Dallas Watkins, features a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb and the script adaptation by David Thompson. Today in 1995, Smokey Joe's Cafe opened at the Virginia Theatre (now the August Wilson Theatre) where it ran for 2036 performances. Smokey Joe's Cafe is a musical revue showcasing 39 pop standards, including rock and roll, rhythm and blues songs written by songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. The Original Broadway cast recording, Smokey Joe's Cafe: The Songs Of Leiber And Stoller won a Grammy award in 1996. In revue format with no unifying theme the 39 songs are presented by various members of the cast in various combinations, with no dialogue. There are novelty songs ('Charlie Brown'), romantic ballads ('Spanish Harlem') and infectious melodies ('There Goes My Baby').
