There's a lot of 'steam heat' on DC area stages and outside, so if you're visiting DC for the annual July 4th fireworks extravaganza, stop by and see a show before you roast on the Mall waiting for the concert and loud "booms" to fill up the sky. And if you couldn't get into the sold-out Oklahoma!, Aquarium, Clybourne Park, or The Importance of Being Earnest - earlier this year - you have a chance now! And then there's The Capital Fringe Festival with dozens of new shows to choose from.

On May 20th, favorite Washington actors Sarah Marshall, Jennifer Mendenhall, Kim Schraf, Craig Wallace, MaryBeth Wise, Christopher Henley, Donna Migliaccio and Deidra Starnes will perform in readings of new plays by favorite Washington playwrights Ari Roth, Norman Allen, Ally Currin, David Emerson Toney , Renee Calarco, Elizabeth Pringle, Pamela Leahigh, and Keith Bridges at Theater J from 11pm to 1am.

The 27th Helen Hayes Awards are being presented at the historic Warner Theatre tonight, April 25, 2011. In addition to 156 theatre artists, ensembles and productions nominated in 26 categories, three special awards will be given.

Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company will remount the company's smash-hit production of Bruce Norris' Clybourne Park from July 21 - August 14, 2011. The entire original cast is scheduled to return for the production, again directed by Woolly Mammoth Artistic Director Howard Shalwitz.

Company member Alexander Strain is among the prestigious DC actors cast in Forum Theatre's revival of the Tony Award-winning Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes. In addition to Strain, who plays Louis, the ensemble features Helen Hayes Award-winners Jennifer Mendenhall as Hannah and Nanna Ingvarsson as The Angel, along with Helen Hayes nominees Karl Miller as Prior and Jim Jorgensen as Roy Cohn. Casie Platt as Harper, Daniel Eichner as Joe, and Ro Boddie as Belize round out the cast.

Here are shows that I am looking forward to seeing, and remember I am a musical theatre lover who likes to sprinkle in a play or two - here and there - so don't get mad if I don't choose one of the plays you are looking forward to seeing. Jennifer Mendenhall To Replace Carla Harting In LEGACY OF LIGHT At Arena Stage

Due to a bike accident in the D.C. area, actress Carla Harting has suffered a broken leg with compound fractures and will no longer be able to continue in the role of Olivia in the Arena Stage production Legacy of Light. Legacy of Light, written by D.C. playwright Karen ZacarÍas and directed by Arena Artistic Director Molly Smith, runs until June 14 at Arena Stage in Crystal City. For the remaining performances, Jennifer Mendenhall (Woolly Mammoth company member) will join the cast in the role of Olivia.

Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, on the verge of turning the big 3-0, is excited to announce the lineup of plays for the 30th Season (2009-10). Featured are a World Premiere by Danai Gurira (In the Continuum), exciting new works from Mike Daisey (If You See Something Say Something), Rajiv Joseph (Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo), and Bruce Norris (The Unmentionables), and a large-scale work by Charles L. Mee (Big Love). In addition, Woolly Mammoth?s favorite out-of-town troupe, The Neo-Futurists, returns to DC for an unprecedented fourth engagement of their hit show, Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind in December.
