Underscore Theatre Company is pleased to present the world premiere musical thriller MY NAME IS ANNIE KING, the story of a young man who stumbles into the world of a religious cult in backcountry Missouri, becoming intoxicated by its leader and his ideologies. With a bluegrass/folk infused score by Aaron Albert and Katy Rea and book by Krista Pioppa, the new musical is directed by Alex Higgin-Houser. In the tradition of Underscore's 2016 hit musical Haymarket: The Anarchist's Songbook, some members of the cast will play their own instruments. MY NAME IS ANNIE KING will play April 21 - May 28, 2017 at Underscore's new resident home Pride Arts Center (The Broadway), 4139 N. Broadway in Chicago. Tickets are currently available at underscoretheatre.org.

Gharachedaghi, star of 'Shahs of Sunset,' will extend her limited engagement in New York's longest running comedy Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man as 'Robyn' by one week. Previously set to depart the show today, December 10, G.G. will now play her final performance today, December 17, 2016 at The 777 Theatre (777 Eighth Avenue, between 47th and 48th Streets). The Theatre School at DePaul University Presents Sarah Ruhl's EURYDICE

The Theatre School at DePaul University is pleased to present Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl, directed by Michael E. Burke (MFA Directing candidate, Class of 2018) in the Sondra & Denis Healy Theatre at The Theatre School building, located at Racine and Fullerton in Lincoln Park. The production premieres on Friday, October 21, and runs through Sunday, October 30, 2016. Performances are Wednesdays through Saturdays at 7:30 PM and Sundays at 2 PM. Previews are on October 19 and 20 at 7:30 PM. Post-show discussions will occur on October 23 (2 PM) and 27 (7:30 PM).

In 'We Want the Funk: A Rustbelt Lullaby on the One,' charismatic Chuck resolves to trust in the notion that economic depression and cultural oppression can be overcome by creating music. Chuck can't play an instrument, but he devotes his energy to forming a funk band to connect his community to their grander calling. That calling might be a literal ticket out of the slums if their band hits it big across the nation; but Chuck, who Goodwin describes as a 'ghetto spiritual leader,' is more interested in the transcendent aspect of music.
