BWW Interview: Playwright Deb Margolin Discusses 8 STOPS & the Joy of Solo Performances

Deb Margolin - the acclaimed playwright / performance artist and Obie winner for 'Sustained Excellence' - will introduce New York audiences to her new solo play '8 Stops' at the Cherry Lane Theatre April 16 to 26. Margolin chatted with BroadwayWorld about the inspiration for '8 Stops,' the advice she gives to her students, and how her children inspired her to write two other plays.

Surprise and gratitude ruled the 17th Barrymore Awards on Monday, October 3 at the Walnut Street Theatre. Presented by the Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia, the black-tie ceremony, directed by Jay Wahl and hosted by 6ABC's Rick Williams, celebrated the work of local theatre artists as well as the vibrancy of the region's theatrical offerings with 27 awards.

The Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia's 2011 Barrymore Awards for Excellence in Theatre are tonight! The nominees were selected by an independent committee of 66 voters who each saw 8 of the 147 shows nominated this year. Four additional awards-Excellence in Theatre Education and Community Service Award, the Ted and Stevie Wolf Award for New Approaches to Collaborations, Brown Martin Philadelphia Award and the F. Otto Haas Award for an Emerging Philadelphia Theatre Artist-will also be distributed at the ceremony.

This festival, which opens March 7, will present these works in repertory over several weekend performances, while the playwrights, directors, and cast have opportunities to develop the work during the week. This festival ends March 22 and will be held at the Shubin Theatre, 407 Bainbridge Street. Tickets are available online at www.philadelphiatheatreworkshop.org and cost $8-$10.
