In an evening that encompasses a personal and rarified experience of moving to and living in New York City, John Epperson - the real person behind Lypsinka - will take the stage in John Epperson: The Artist Principally Known as Lypsinka for four nights only at Joe's Pub at The Public. With a nod to the urbane cabaret style of Bobby Short, Epperson's evening embraces classic entertainment filled with stories, tunes, and a few surprises. The entertainer, aka The Goddess of Showbiz Lypsinka, commands the piano and stage with a musical journey that weaves together Stephen Sondheim, Frank Loesser, Jule Styne, Kay Thompson, Kander & Ebb, Comden & Green, Rodgers & Hammerstein, and transgender icon Christine Jorgenson. Jay Rogers directs the limited engagement show which takes place at Joe's Pub (425 Lafayette Street) on four nights only, August 15th & 17th at 9:30 and September 13th & 16th at 7:30. Get ready to mash things up! In celebration of the opening night performance of IDAHO! THE COMEDY MUSICAL this Saturday, July 9, Mayor Carolyn Goodman has proclaimed July 9, 2016 "IDAHO! THE COMEDY MUSICAL DAY" in Las Vegas. A proclamation ceremony will take place in Symphony Park at 6 p.m. that evening, which is open to the public, and will be followed by the opening night performance at 7:30 p.m. in Reynolds Hall. The proclamation ceremony will take place in front of an epic 18-wheel, 6-ton Big Idaho Potato Truck, which will remain on display in Symphony Park through Tuesday, July 12. Celebrated for its roster of unparalleled musical theatre offerings, The Smith Center for the Performing Arts announces the complete cast for its debut of IDAHO! THE COMEDY MUSICAL, exclusively at Reynolds Hall this July. Written by Buddy Sheffield with music by Sheffield and Keith Thompson, preview performances will be held July 6 - 8, followed by the official opening night on July 9 and additional performances July 10 - 17. At a ceremony held last night in New York, the Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs announced the winners of the 2016 MAC Awards. A Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Amanda McBroom. Also honored with a Board of Directors award was Maryann Lopinto. Jamie deRoy received the Ruth Kurtzman Benefit Award on behalf of her work with The Actors Fund: Jamie deRoy & Friends Cabaret Initiative. Sally Darling received the Hanson Award. The show was produced by Julie Miller and directed by Lennie Watts, with musical direction by Matt Baker.
