Shanghai Disney Resort celebrated the global premiere of the first Mandarin production of Disney's THE LION KING Tuesday night in a gala affair at the Walt Disney Grand Theatre. The premiere launched the Grand Opening festivities for the new resort, which officially opens on June 16. A red carpet entry to the new theatre welcomed celebrities, luminaries and Julie Taymor, the Tony Award®-winning director of THE LION KING.

Disney Theatrical Productions and Broadway/San Diego announced today that tickets for the long-awaited return engagement of Disney's THE LION KING will go on sale to the public on Friday, April 15th at 10am.

?Disney Theatrical Productions and Hennepin Theatre Trust announced today that tickets for the long-awaited return engagement of DISNEY'S THE LION KING will go on sale to the public on Friday, April 8 at 10 a.m. Minneapolis' most eagerly awaited return will once again leap onto the historic Orpheum Theatre stage (910 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis) on Tuesday, July 5 for a limited engagement of five weeks through Sunday, Aug. 7. The opening night is Thursday, July 7 at 7:30 p.m.

Based on the 1994 Disney animated film of the same name, The Lion King tells the story of Simba, a young lion who is supposed to succeed his father Mufasa, as King of Pride Rock. But when Simba's Uncle Scar kills Mufasa, Simba runs away from home after being tricked into thinking that he was responsible. As he comes of age, Simba learns some valuable perspective to go back and take his rightful place as King.

Disney's THE LION KING continues to reign across North America with a sold-out engagement in Tampa, which concluded on Sunday, Feb. 14, at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts. The triumphant four-week return grossed more than $5.6 million at the box office and entertained nearly 75,000 patrons during 32 performances.

THE LION KING will be featured on the hit CBS drama, CODE BLACK, starring Marcia Gay Harden, in tonight's (Nov. 25, 10:00 - 11:00 PM, ET/PT) episode on the CBS Television Network. The episode features Alton Fitzgerald White, who played a record-breaking 4,000 performances as 'Mufasa' in The Lion King, as well as eight members of The Lion King North American Tour. Disney Theatrical Productions and DPAC announced today that due to popular demand, the long-awaited return engagement of Disney's THE LION KING has been extended by one week. As of today, 21,000 additional seats, including prime locations, are on sale through DPAC.com and Ticketmaster.

According to the New York Times, THE LION KING is about to launch an online lottery, giving fans a chance at $30 next-day tickets.  Disney Theatrical Productions' Andrew Flatt, told NYT: "For many years we have explored ways to make more affordable tickets to The Lion King available to the public, but when we've tried a student rush in the past, some ticket brokers purchased the tickets at the rush price and resold them for much more than their face value." To participate, fans can enter starting the day before a performance (at lionking.com/lottery) and will receive an immediate notification if they have won. They then will pay online and collect tickets at the box office before the show.

The Denver return of Disney's THE LION KING opens tonight, Friday, November 6 at 7:30pm at The Buell Theatre for a limited engagement of four weeks through November 29.
